it has long thought that 200 gig discs for shure will not play in current players. and that maybe 100 gigs could but lets say as of know only 25 and 50 gig layers can. would that not mean possibly that the successor to blu-ray would just be blu-ray but with 8 layer discs? that contain 200 gigs i would think this might happened in 10 years or would the inderstry just jump to a different technology? but what would be your comments on this/?

I think this will be the final straw for HD disks...I'll purchase them for my collection...
but the next format will not be a disk...this is their last ditch effort to make money off this format... the next format will be downloading movies or something to that effect.. I wouldnt mind a movie as a flash drive...and plug it into your TV when you want to watch it... |

I will agree on the flash drives, now days 2gb's is around $20 down from 75-100 about a year ago.... and you can provide different protection on these.

but u will have to compar cost vs gig. for blu-ray u can buy for 10$ a 25 gig disc. that 40 cents a gig also that has a potentioal of a 54 mb/s plus maybe a little more i don`t think flash technoliges are progresing as fast as we would like magnetic flash or phase change

hdtv's only need 24mb/s so the little thoughts that bd is better because of a higher transfer rate are null...
but back to the point, usb drives have a transfer rate of 480 mbits/s (equivelent to 55mb/s per wiki) on v2.0, so I guess im confused on why it wouldnt be a better route? Last edited by jason; 04-15-2007 at 05:52 PM. |

Yeah... M$ thinks the same. That's why they back HD DVD imho.
About a year ago, the HD DVD was almost dead. For sure. Then M$ joined... It won't take long. However, as far as I'm concerned, the networks now just aren't ready to stream 1080p signals on-demand to everybody in the developed world. So it will take some time first... And I'm not so sure if it'll be that successful at first. People want to own the movie. It won't be the same... |

Bigger is not always better but you can never have too much HD space.
