A blank disc was announced by Pioneer with a price of $50 for a 50 GB disc.

What time frame? CD Blanks were horrifically expensive when they first came out, by the end of the year I think a 50GB blank will be less than US$10, The proposed release of 50GB R/W is about US$50 from Panasonic

Yeah... I think the prices will prevent the war to heat up to a high level... Sales will be low, for both.. And in the end maybe both will stay existing. Till they reach DVD comparable prices... It may take a long time till it may be over.
