PS3 no DTS..does this apply to me?

PS3 doesn't bitstream DTS-HD True HD etc..

i don't know what in the world that means
im planning to buy the ps3 so if u can explain if i should be concerned with the lack of that feature, please do.

bitstream= ps3 sends the info to the reciever, linearPCM= ps3 decode's the info THEN send it to the receiver. ps3 cant bitstream HD audio, only linear PCM. and it doesin't have DTS-HD yet.

It means it will not pass DTS-HD or True HD to the receiver for decoding. It will decoded True HD within the PS3 today (DTS-MA in the near future) and pass it to the receiver as PCM where the DAC (digital-to-analog converter) will happen.

Should you be concerned? IMO no. Decoding DTS-MA or True HD on the PS3 vs bitstreaming it to the receiver will have no impact on performance.

It will give you more choice in which receivers you can buy to listen to the lossless tracks. When DTS-MA or True HD are decoded on the PS3 you can basically get any receiver that can support PCM via HDMI.

If you want to bitstream to the receiver, you have to be sure that your receiver can decode DTS-MA or True HD. It will then pass the decoded information as PCM to the DAC section of your receiver.
