Hells Angels on Wheels Blu-ray

Hells Angels on Wheels Blu-ray review

Quote:
Independent distributors Hen's Tooth Video have announced that they will release a combo pack edition of Richard Rush's Hells Angels on Wheels (1967), starring Jack Nicholson, Adam Roarke, Sabrina Scharf, and John Garwood. The preliminary release date set by the distributors is September 3th.

Jack Nicholson stars as Poet, a bored gas station attendant who leaves his mundane life in the dust to blast down the open highway with the Hell's Angels, one of the world's hardest riding, toughest living motorcycle gangs. It's nonstop sex, drugs and action on a mind-blowing ride at first, but when the naive Poet gets mixed up with the gang leader's pretty girlfriend (Easy Rider's Sabrina Scharf, future California state senator), his new high-octane lifestyle explodes! With the fluid cinematography of Easy Rider's Laszlo Kovacs, this freewheeling, bare-knuckled adventure, featuring actual members of the notorious Northern California Hells Angels, is one wild trip!

Interesting, but not my favorite biker flick. I'll consider this title.

Hells Angels on Wheels will contain a new commentary by director Richard Rush.

I will be picking this up. My favorite biker flick, Stone Cold with Brian Bosworth and Lance Henriksen. Awesome!

Those who bought this movie might find the following 1965 LIFE magazine article (and photos) about Hells Angels interesting.

http://life.time.com/culture/hells-a...-life-weekly#1

This next part is just me reminiscing about my biker-movie related memories from the late 1960s ...

[Show spoiler]I recently bought Hells Angels on Wheels because I vaguely remember seeing it in the local theater back in the 1960s at age 12 or 13 or so. I haven't re-watched it yet, but am curious to find out how much of it comes back to me. Back then, I didn't have a clue who Jack Nicholson was (and I'm sure I wasn't alone) ... but again, I do vaguely remember his character in this movie. Looking forward to checking this out ... whenever that happens to be.

Oh, and as a 12 year old in 1967, I was well aware of who the Hells Angels were. I remember several "biker movies" like HAoW coming out around that time. I'd get on my gold Schwinn Stingray bicycle (with the high handle bars and white banana seat) and pretend I was a member of a biker gang (probably either the Wild Angels or Hells Angels). Speaking of ... I think The Wild Angels still needs to be released on blu-ray.

Okay, that's enough of my rambling down memory lane. Thanks for bearing with me. Here are a few links to check out, if you like.
