Default Transformers 3 7.1?

Can anyone help me just got my receiver pioneer vsx-1122 and wanted to try out a 7.1 movie so I put in Transformers dark of the moon what is 7.1 TruHD but it still only outputs in 5.1, but it says TruHD on the receiver.

The receiver is able to receive signal from all the speakers, correct? I would look in the owner's manual to see what troubleshooting steps to take. I couldn't find anything online.

I know nothing about the Pioneer, but I do have a couple of questions to ask.

When you go into the Pioneer menu/setup, are you able to adjust the db’s from each speaker?

I also see in your sig, you have front highs, isn’t that AVR only a 7.1?

Do you have all of your speakers connected to the proper output on the rear of the AVR?

If everything is connected right, make sure you do not have dual zones on at the sametime.

Hey Hamp , yes you can change the values from each speaker individually even after MCACC is set like X-over etc , also you brought a good point , this AVR can do High's/wide also but doing so it cancels the back surrounds .

Other thing is it should show "Direct" on the front in red but if you are using front highs it cancels the back surrounds and it makes this a 7.1 and not a 9.1

I know you can make adjustments, I was wondering if he was able check each speaker in the setup.

I was kinda tired and I didn't type it out properly.

When you get home, can you go into the menu where you are able to make db adjustments to each speakers. I would like you to test to make sure you have audio from each individual speaker. You are able to select each speaker and you will/should hear an audio sound that you can raise or lower, but I just want to know if you can hear anything from each one.

Even if the test tones work for all 7 speakers, a 7.1 soundtrack (like Transformers) afaik is the traditional 5 surround speakers (front right, front left, center, surround right, and surround left) plus two rear speakers. I've never seen a 7.1 blu-ray that had the extra 2.0 speakers as front wides or heights, those always have to be matrixed.

So if he doesn't have rear speakers setup he's not going to get 7.1 output from his receiver without altering the listening mode. The blu-ray would be working right, it's his speaker configuration that would be the issue. Don't you agree? Unless that receiver works different than all the ones I have had experience with (to be fair, only multiple onkyo models).

If your receiver lights up with TrueHD, then you are probably bitstreaming and the player is probably fine.

I am confused because in your signature, it says you have front height speakers and surround back speakers so you are using these instead of surround speakers?

On page 80 of your manual, it says to go into the manual sp menu and choose normal SB/FH for a front height setup. Make sure you connect the surround speakers to the surround channels in the receiver and select the placement of the surround channels to in rear(if surrounds are behind you) or onside(if surrounds are beside you).

Thanks again to all I am understanding what y'all are saying but, in my setup I do have a 9 speaker configuration the traditional 5 speakers and also 4 inceiling speakers 2 that is mounted in front they are angled as front high and two I the rear what I use as surround back and the receiver has provisions for all those speakers. In the setup it is set to FH/SB and the calibration tests all of them and it is correct but when playing transformers last night to try it out no sound is coming from the surround back speakers or front high and I think something should be matrixed to one of them.

Okay I understand your set up now. The receiver you have is a 7.2 channel receiver so maybe if you can return that receiver and look for a 9.1 or 11.1 receiver than those 9.1 receivers can do what your looking for.

But if no sound is coming from those channels, then check your surround mode, try the Pro logic 11z height mode to check at least if sound is coming through the front heights of your setup.

If you look on page 62 of the owners manual, it states," SP: SB/FH ON – Surround back or front height channels are added to the front, center and surround chan- nels (maximum 5 channels) and a maximum of 7 channels are output. The surround back and front height channels are switched automatically according to the audio input signal."

So you won't be able to get all 9 channels working because only 7 will output and if you want all 9 channels even in matrix mode then try and get a 9.1 receiver to maximize your speaker setup.

Also on page17 it also explains that you won't be getting sound simultaneously from your heights and your surround backs in SB/FH. Here is what your manual says,"A 7.2 ch surround system connects the left and right front speakers (L/R), the center speaker (C), the left and right front height speakers (FHL/FHR), the left and right surround speakers (SL/SR), the left and right surround back speakers (SBL/SBR), and the subwoofers (SW 1/SW 2).
It is not possible to produce sound simultaneously from the front height speakers and the surround back speakers.
This surround system produces a more true-to-life sound from above."

You mentioned that all your speakers are detected in calibration mode so I don't think it's your connections but maybe try different sound modes. IMO, if you setup your HT with 9 channels then maybe try and get a 9.1 receiver if its not too late.

Good luck and enjoy your nice setup.

I watched this movie yesterday, I don't currently have a 7.1 setup, but I was surprised that in the setup for the disc it didn't give the 7.1 TrueHD option, only a 5.1 Dolby Digital mix. My Pioneer Elite SC-61 receiver showed Dolby Digital.

I have a 7.1 setup and I have the option of 7.1 TrueHD for Transformers 3.

Where/how did you get the movie? With some rental companies, there may not be a lossless option.

I don't think he rented the movie because its in his bluray library but maybe the region free version doesn't have that option.

It's a retail disc.

This exact one.

I don't have a 7.1 set up currently, but it seems like the setup on the BD menu should show it regardless? Seemed very weird that it only gave a Dolby Digital 5.1 option instead of a downmixed TrueHD option.
