An interesting story developing where artists are joining in for a boycott of Pandora.

The Internet radio site Pandora has begun pushing its users to write their Congressmen to support a newly introduced bill called the Internet Radio Fairness Act. The idea, crafted pretty specifically for Pandora, is to reduce the royalties the company has to pay for the music played on the service. Although I can understand what Pink Floyd is saying and it is a very honorable position to take. I just wish they would re-unite over a concert instead of a "political" matter.

Pink Floyd should donate 110% of what they earn from Pandora to the other poor 90% of Pandora's musicians. You know, the 90% that don't make 5K annually from Pandora airplay.

They can't play on a freaking stage together....but, oh hellYESSS, they'll band together to defend their dollars.

This, my friends, is truly weak. I'm supposed to care about a group of grown men who refuse to step onstage together to create beautiful music? A bunch of guys that live in homes worth more than my entire block?

Time for a visit to the 'net for some (ahem) cheap music.

They're trying to pay the songwriter way less revenues too which sucks as many times the songwriter isn't actually the performer or artist (see Rod Temperton - Thriller)

This much is true: Pandora is by far the highest paying form of radio in the world and proudly pays both songwriters and performers.

For perspective, to reach the exact same audience, Pandora currently pays over 4.5 times more in total royalties than broadcast radio for the same song. In fact, at only 7% of U.S. radio listening, Pandora pays more in performance royalties than any other form of radio.

I don't think that's true, the singer from Cracker actually shows screenshots of what he got paid Q4/12 just for the song "Low" as the songwriter:

Terrestrial - $1522.00

It's too bad that Sirius/XM has to pay so much. If weren't for them, I wouldn't have bought as much music as I have.
Because of the choices in my hometown i.e. FM radio, along with what I was seeing on our video music channels, I thought Rock Music had died. I hadn't bought a cd in what seemed like years. Once I got satellite radio though, that changed and I bought more music than I had ever bought before.
I'm not crazy about the compression, but I'll take that over not having anything to listen to.

On topic, I can't get Pandora so I shouldn't really comment on that.
