The last two films didn't do well in theatres so I can understand why this is going straight to video.

Bride was the highest grossing film.

Mainly because of Tilly's titties.

The second* and it had a $25M budget so it probably barely made its money back.

Those are domestic numbers. Both Bride and Seed doubled there initial take when foreign was factored in. Also Bride was on the best sellers list for home video for well over a year.

BRIDE was a huge home video hit and has maintained a favorable status consensus in the series. If SEED had lived up to its potential, BRIDE could have spun the franchise off in a brand new direction that could have resulted in a number of sequels....

The new flick sounds like it will be fun.
Seed would have been great had it actually had a budget like Bride had. Listen to the commentary track to hear how cheap they made the film. It just has a very DTV vibe even thou it came out in theaters. No epic moments like Chucky killing human Tiffany, and birth of doll Tiffany with the bubbles. But I do love Jennifer Tilly so she is one of the few good things in Seed.

Yeah, I was referring to worldwide numbers. But to be fair, if you consider inflation, the original probably wins.

They took way to long to make Seed and went in a very wrong direction with the silliness of it and that is why it failed and pretty much killed the franchise.
Should not have taken more than 2 years for a sequel to Bride and they should have made a different film.

Is there any official news you can point to on Universal releasing Child's Play 2 & 3 on Blu in the United States? I have e-mailed them twice, both times they said nothing was even in the works.

I believe Cliff from Shout Factory said they tried licensing them only to be told Universal had their own plans for them.

Both. It fits in the time-line between CP 3 and Bride. But it also seems to be more dark and less campy. So it's like Superman returns, a reboot but also sequel.

It's admittedly been a while since I've seen them, but wasn't the whole reason Chucky was all stitched up in Bride was because he got torn up at the end up part 3? So it wouldn't really make sense for this to take place between them...
