Question Question about Slingbox Solo

I got the Slingbox for my birthday today, now I have to go out tomorrow to pick up the Sling Link so I can set it up wireless.

My question is, the purpose of me buying this was so I can watch the Yankees when im out of town. When I leave the house, do I have to keep the channel on the one I want? Or will I be able to change the channel on the laptop? Because I really dont wanna keep this if im only allowed to watch 1 channel.

I don't have a Slingbox, but I'm pretty sure you can change the channels. I believe you can control all functions - including DVR, etc (if you have one).

Being a proud slingbox owner I think I can help you out .
Slingbox has wired IR sensor you stick in front of IR port on cable/Satellite receiver so channels can be changed remotely form your notebook.
If you have DVR you also can control recording of your fav shows and watch those you have recorded with Sling.

how does that work if he's out of town? I'm interested but know nothing about slingbox.

also, the name "Sling" is that because you have a slingbox by any chance? curious

Slingbox plugs into any video source at home such as cable box, satellite box, DVD player , VCR, or a digital video recorder and relays its output over your Internet connection to any computer running Slingbox playback software.
Slingbox's "IR emitter" is a small plastic pod at the end of a wire, that is positioned to face infrared remote-control receiver on the front of your video source at home so you can change channels to your viewing pleasure ,record programing or view previously recorded content any were in the world from notebooks using windows or mac OS as well as Window mobile PDA/PPCs such as WM Treo ,Samsung blackjack and so on...I Sling to my Treo 700wx ppc
Slingbox is comeing out with BB software in a couple months so you can watch TV on your Blackberry PDA which I'm looking very much forward to.
I'm picking up Sprints new blackberry Curve on April 20th

cool, so the laptop does not need to be in the same area as the IR emitter? Thats what was confusing me.

so you take the laptop out of town, and through the internet you connect to the IR emitter to change channels? am I understanding correctly? Reason I ask is because I don't have an HD DVR and have seen that the Slingbox has an HD recorder (is that correct?)...so am thinking if its a good idea for me?

Your not connecting directly to IR....You are connecting to slingbox with Slingbox connecting to IR of your receiver
Your using you notebook to change channel,it sends hit to slingbox...Sling turns channel using IR sending feed back to notebook .

hmm as seen in sig I use HD DVR but plug sling into RCA L-R-V getting outstanding PQ /SQ with no lag.

My opinion , HD is a little overrated on notebooks and PPC/PDAs for Slinging...
SD is all you need ..Nobody hit me just giving my opinion lol

MY NEW TOY COME APRIL 20TH.. .bring on Sling software
