The beginning of showing the arrival of the alien crafts on Earth was ripped-off from the Original "V" Miniseries. From there on, especially the ending was right out of the Original War of the Worlds. The guy sitting in the row directly ahead of me was so mad he threw the press kit folder (we all were given) down on the floor and walked out. In the lobby after the film most were just complaining how so many scenes were out right stolen from War of the Worlds. My review was in Films In Review and I gave it a big thumbs down. It's just such a stupid horrible movie - then again, most of Roland Emmeric are either stolen material or just plain stupid.
Who bothers to enter a thread of a film they hate just to comment that they hate it? What's the point?

More like driving by a car accident just to see what's going on. Besides, it was to state what the "adult" reaction was at the screening since it seem most people to actually saw it then, and liked it were kids at the time - which would explain why they didn't think differently.

Any chance of seeing new transfers for early titles like Independence Day, Entrapment, and others?

I'm hopeful that the seemingly cancelled 3D release will rear its head again before the sequel.

Yes I'd love to see it in theaters again, even if in 3D.

I'm still not holding my breath on that sequel. I'd love to be proven wrong, but they've been playing that song for a very, very long time.

Well, there is a release date in 2016. That's a pretty big start.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. I'll believe it when I'm watching it.

Anyone else watching this tonight? I just finished watching it, and I still absolutely love it, one of my favorite '90s blockbusters. It's cheesy in parts sure, but it's a total blast to watch. I always look forward to my annual viewing of Independence Day

I watched this along with the PSE LD of 1776, as has been my tradition for years (I think I've been watching ID4 each 7/4 since 2007). I was impressed by the audio today, and I found the video to look pretty good while at the same time feeling like there might be more detail there.

I'm happy with the disc but I'd upgrade if there was a new transfer that was demonstrably better. I'm fortunate in this case to thoroughly prefer the theatrical cut (as I typically do when I feel like it's an long movie made longer for no real purpose). I'm good on extras, with the 2 disc DVD.

I like it but I never bought it. I wanted to get the original 2 disc DVD but by the time I had a player they were gone and then went to a single disc.

I never bothered to get the BD also. I hope they put it out on 2 disc someday.

it adds a little more comedy to the film.

it also explains why that kid was all sick and puking.

I wonder exactly how many critics stormed out of preview-screenings of the original 1977 Star Wars movie in protest -- George Lucas ripped off just as many (and probably more) prose and filmed SF sources as Roland Emmerich did with ID4. Wonder if this even occurred to that audience-guy at the 1996 screening? Probably not.

Did anyone else notice a special edition of ID4 scheduled for 9/9? Is this just another repackaging gimmick?
