USA The Fly (1958) - September 10, 2013

The Fly Blu-ray

Quote:
When a scientist (David Hedison) attempts to transfer matter through space, things go horrifically wrong and two grotesque man-fly hybrids are created. Now, with the head of a fly and a wing in place of one of his arms, the scientist desperately hopes that he, his wife (Patricia Owens) and his brother (Vincent Price) can capture the other mutant and reverse the experiment.
[Show spoiler]

From Twilight Time. Nuh, i'm kidding It's not that i have something against them, though

Encouraged by the recent Blu-ray announcement of the original The Fly in UK, I've decided to ask Fox rep, James Finn, via his Twitter account about US release date, to which he replied with, quote "soon..".

My guess is October; being a Halloween and all that. An awesome year for Price aficionados, for sure

UPDATE: Release date: September 10. According to Amazon.ca

Note: Canadian and US's Fox blu-rays occur on the same date.

Weird trailer, lol.

Great freaking news.

Vincent Price is on fire this year. Gimme a little The Last Man on Earth and I will be one happy camper.

[Show spoiler]btw, nice TT joke. i don't think I've ever seen an OP derail his own thread in the OP...should be fun

I wonder if we'll get both Price Fly films? At least I hope they port the commentary and 'Fly Trap' doc.

It's in color? I haven't seen it in 40 years, probably on a B&W tv set!
Thnaks for helping me with that info.

I still do a double-take when I see color screenshots of The Blob.

Sounds good, but maybe THE FLY will be released as a Fox Studio Classics MOD?

Hopefully they'll do a collection of all the Fly movies like they did on DVD.

The original FLY has one of the most infamous gross-out endings which was quite shocking in its day.

The Fly and The Birds are the 2 creepy movies I always had to watch on TV when I was a child.

for those who don't know, the original film is a Fox color scope production, while the sequel was filmed in b&w to save money.
so many people who remember a b&w film with Vincent Price think they have seen the Fly when they actually were seeing Return of the Fly.
just a strange quirk in film history.
It will be a real shame if Return of the Fly doesn't get a bd release also because it is a true sequel in every sense of the word, with Vincent Price now assuming the leading role, after being a supporting player in the original.
btw: warning to modern film lovers--the original Fly is extremely slow paced and contains very little action and a whole lot of talking. The sequel contains far more "action" than the original film.

If you don't know that reference, you really don't remember the film. I saw it as a kid in the 1970s and still remember it. Haven't seen the film since.

And the poster above is correct, the ending of the original The Fly was totally shocking and gross at the time, even when I saw it on late night TV, which is why it freaked me out.
