Bad Discs, anybody ?? - Blu-ray Forum

Recently, I've had two titles ("30 Days Of Night" and "Man On Fire") that repeatedly froze and / or skipped at the same spot on the disc, beginning with the first time they were played on my Sony BDP-S300 blu-ray player.

Returned them to the store and exchanged them for a new copy.

The second copies did NOT freeze / skip at the same location on the disc when played.

Other blu-ray titles played O.K.

Firmware has been updated to version 3.8, so that's not the problem. Other titles play O.K.

How many "bad " discs have you bought and returned for another copy ?????????

Logic says its the software that is the problem but when is the last time that anybody has had this type of problem with standard DVD's. My guess is never.

You begin to question your blu-ray player's stability as being the faulty link.

The problem is nobody can give you a straight answer.

I just watched 30 Days of Night and it didn't have any problems. The only disc I had a problem with was 300 wouldn't play when I bought it last year but I exchanged it for another copy and it played fine after that.

I have a pretty large collection and haven't had any with the type of problems you're describing (haven't watched 30 or so of them yet though). I do have a few that have authoring mistakes though (for example, T3 being 1080i instead of 1080p, Chronos not playing the PS3 b/c of a flag being set a certain way, etc.)

I had that same problem with 300 about 2 weeks ago. It wouldn't play so I exchanged it at Target. The new copy worked just fine!

No problems with BDs yet. But I have had a few DVDs that did that.

50 BDs and all ive had problems with is dan in real life and harry potter 4. didnt exchange either of them. dan in real life works if i FF past the black out so if i truly ever have the desire to watch it again its not really a problem.
HP4 Ill just wait a couple years and buy the complete set. Not in a rush to watch it for a while.
