Xbox 360 On The Skids Retailers Consider Dumping It By David Richards | Sunday | 06/04/2008

A survey of 10 Australian retail chains who operate over 2,000 stores reveals that the Microsoft XBox 360 is on the skids with the majority of the chains seeing their gaming growth coming from the Sony PS3 or the Nintendo Wii. Conducted by ChannelNews and SmartHouse the research also revealed that the most crucial component in the gaming market in 2008 will be new software. Overall retailers said that the PS3 was selling well because it had a Blu ray drive and that the Nintendo Wii was appealling to both women and "Kids" because of it's interactive capability.
The retailers claimed that the Xbox 360 as a brand had suffered from their "Ring of Death" problems in 2007 and that consumers did not see the Microsoft gaming console as "Value" when compared to the PS3 or the Nintendo Wii.
One major retailer said "Both the Sony PS3 and Nintendo Wii appeal to women and families and with Sony now winning the HD format war we can also sell the PS3 as a Blu ray player. This will allow us to also sell Blu ray content".
Another Melbourne based retailer said "The Xbox 360 is dead. We are stocking it because of our relationship with Microsoft however all our energy and marketing is going into the PS3 and the Nintendo Wii unless Microsoft come up with something new or additional marketing dollars. Halo 3 was big on the Xbox but that was about it. They have tried discounting and value add offers and even that is not working. We are even thinking of dumping the console all together". ...

So true. Thats pretty much the only game I hear that is used in defense of the 360.

Actually vgchartz has gotten better with time. Nexgenwars is just bunch of kids who argue over one another. VG I have to admit, is not as bad. More mature kids than its crappy counterpart. VG keeps a way better count than Nexgenwars. It's not random numbers but they do there best. Plus its hard to keep track of the exact numbers as they constantly change. The part that I find hilarious is when Nexgenwars talks crap about VG when Nexgenwars doesn't keep track of the console count. Real genuis's or rather jealous individuals.

As much as I like the 360, i'm glad to see that sales are going stale for Micro$oft. Because it is the worst of the consoles out there at the moment!

The PS3 is constantly evolving and getting better and that is why I love it! Even at the start when the PS3 was just a "baby" I could see that it was a country mile better than the 360 (or dust gatherer as it is known in my house)

The truth of the matter is that the Wii will dominate overall, But of the true HD beasts the PS3 will become the major player this year and Sony will re-assert themselves as the gaming elite.

I for one can't wait to see what the future holds for us PS3 owners.

Actually the problem over at NexGenWars was that the site was sold to new owners, who subsequently never updated the numbers (or did much of anything to the site, period). Up until about eight months ago, the numbers at NexGenWars was consistently more accurate than at VGChartz, in terms of being supported by available public data.

It eventually got so bad that the members there staged a revolt and departed the forums en masse.

I'm glad I stuck to my guns and waited for the PS3 to come out. The 360 was rushed to market, and in order to do that it lacked key features like a built-in hard drive and HD-DVD drive (thank god!). On top of all that it continues to be plagued with shoddy workmanship (RROD is still here). At least the Games for Windows program has allows me to play pretty much all of the 360 games I want to, like Bioshock, Gears of War, and Mass Effect on my PC.

I hate to say this since I still love the original, but I think Dreamcast 2 is heading off into the sunset.

Yea I read up about it when it first got sold. I thought it was going to make a turn for the better but nothing happend. And the mods ended up having no power as it seems. I would at least given them the power to change the console count but I guess that never worked out as its still out of date. Those freakin kids. I still visit nexgen but refuse to make any comments as the people there act like they are full of knowledge when they dont know shit. Its really hard to say if they were more accurate. I always thought they were biased and always raised the 360 count much more than normal. I notice they were so off at times but kept the PS3 real low.

I just took a quick peek at the numbers on Vgchartz and Nexgenwars. It seems Vgchartz are much closer to the correct numbers than Nexgenwars.
