Default Defiance: Season One - October 15, 2013 - Pre-order

Defiance: Season One Blu-ray
Defiance: Season One Pre-order

Quote:
Universal Studios Home Entertainment will release Defiance: Season One on Blu-ray this fall. The action-packed science fiction series stars Grant Bowler, Julie Benz, Stephanie Leonidas, Tony Curran, Jamie Murrary, Graham Greene and Mia Kirshner, and arrives on Blu-ray on October 15th.

Synopsis: Defiance is the first of its kind. A convergence of television and multi-platform videogame featuring an interconnected world that evolves together -- series and videogame -- into one story. The year is 2046 and more than three decades have passed since aliens arrived, changing life on Earth forever. In the frontier town of Defiance, a drifter-turned-lawkeeper, Nolan (Bowler, True Blood), and Mayor Rosewater (Julie Benz, Dexter) attempt to lead the human and alien residents through the prejudices and politics that threaten the fragile peace they've fought for.

The Blu-ray release of Season One features all twelve first season episodes, 1080p video, DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround, an UltraViolet digital copy of the entire season, and a number of extras:
  • Defiance: A Transmedia Revolution
  • Behind the Scenes with Jesse Rath
  • Making Defiance
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Gag Reel

This show had it's moments, I'll definitely wait for a sale though. It never really got any better than the pilot which was the strongest episode. I'm glad it's getting a season 2, there's a chance it could get much better.

I had a lot of interest in the show but never got to watch it, I rarely have time to watch TV anymore. But interesting it has a UV copy, seems to be popping up more and more in TV sets.

Sucks that the UK version of this which is region B locked is 11.75 pounds (about $19.00 US) and was already released 3 months ago there, while the US version has been sitting at $47 since it was announced. Even until recently it was around 19 pounds, which is around $31 USD. It seems they get their TV shows, which are usually produced in North America for much less then we can, the Enterprise TV series was another good example of the pricing disparity.

I can confirm you that the UK BDs of Defiance are region free as Though I live in Spain, my Oppo BDP-93 is a US model unlocked, stick with region A, and I have the UK release and it plays. It's region free, believe me.

Even at 19 pounds it's still about 15-17 US dollars cheaper then the actual US release.

Then I say go for it! Have the set myself too. Downside is the "BIG" box, it's twice the size (thick) as a standard blu-ray case. Don't understand why this is has been done. It's also 4 discs, believe the region 1 set will be 3 discs?!

Buy it, if you have already watched it on TV, either on SD or HD, these blu rays look outstanding, they were shot digitally at 5K and post-produced at 2K, just like an expensive movie.
The DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack is also excellent, the pilot can shake the foundations of your house/building if played loud.

I watched the first three episodes when it was on TV and wasn't too crazy about it so I stopped watching. However, I've been seeing a lot of previews for Season 2 in the last few weeks and am considering picking this up on BD. The question I have is should I just simply watch the episodes On Demand or should I go ahead buy this and watch it at my leisure?

I need to give the show a chance. Amazon Prime just added the first season so I think I can get caught up before season 2

Defiance is somewhat of a throwback in terms of Science Fiction. It's more of a Western transplanted to a Sci-Fi setting. Aside from a couple of episodes, the writing is steady and its characters are likable.

Love Defiance; it was one of my favorite new shows from last year. The show pulled me in from the first episode. Great, fully imagined series with cool aliens, great make-up/prosthetics, laser-knives, etc. Though not completely original, it's still very well-done and enjoyable. I liked the uneasy co-existence between the different alien races in the town. It seems like a mish-mash of old westerns, Star Wars, Star Trek, Farscape (makes sense, since I recognized a R. O'Bannon in the show's credits, who IIRC worked on Farscape as well), & some Robotech thrown in for good measure.

Being a big music fan, my one complaint is the use of sub-par cover songs - why not just use the original songs? I know rights may be an issue. I wouldn't mind as much if they were good cover songs....Also interesting that they spin records instead of using CD's/I-pods - this is supposed to be the future, so am not sure how many records would still be around at this point. That being said, it's post-apocalyptic, so maybe all of the CD's & I-pods were lost and/or weren't able to be used anymore, and someone found a collection of old records somewhere which is now the only source of music?!

That being said, one of my favorite episodes was the storyline with the
[Show spoiler]alleged astronaut
. Great plot, however, and kept my interest throughout. In fact, I would have to say this is one of the best episodes of the series. Being a big Elvis Costello fan, enjoyed the song Man out of Time, played towards the end. This is one of the rare times when they didn't use a cover song....

Re: the finale of S1:

Was quite impressed with this; they really pulled out all the stops here.
[Show spoiler]Very unexpected twists, and I'm glad Nolan survived - though, it's uncertain what happened with Irisa. Also, I wonder if Kenya survived?!

I knew the colonel was a goner when he insulted/confronted Datak Tarr, especially since noone else was around in that room - there was no way Datak would have stood for that. It was unclear if Datak was also wounded, however.

I will have to go back and re-watch S1 to prepare for the upcoming S2 in June...

I didn't find a thread for season two or ... three.
In checking for news on whether it's Cancelled Or Renewed For Season 3, this is the best I could find:

http://seriable.com/defiance-cancell...ewed-season-3/

As of Sept 12, it says that SyFy exec Ted A’Zary (not connected with the show according to IMDb) says that he expected we’d know the fate of Defiance by now - saying “soon”. Anybody got any better or newer news?

Good to know. I checked the site I had and they added it today - but who knows when I'd have remembered to check again. Thanks!
