Oh you just have to go with the kiddie film here. I bet Smurfs opens to like 48 million. Although my brother and his wife aren't letting their kids see it cause they hated the first one and are seeing PLANES instead!

I shall be seeing Wolverine and 2 Guns myself. Wait a few weeks on Smurfs.

Smurfs 2 should lead ... Still haven't seen the first one, though. As a small kid I loved the Smurfs TV-series. And when I was a bit older I loved the comics, they were smart, sharp and about big themes in life, without losing the many jokes for alduts and children. This could have been all of that in a movie ... instead ... well, look at the trailers. Meh.

Don't you know, you can't judge something by the trailers, they could misrepresent the film.

While Smurfs will most likely win, do you guys really think it will do 50-60 million? where are you guys getting those predictions from? The 1st one released the same week a few years ago - late July and did under $40 million. I think it had a lot more buzz than this one does.

I think this will open to almost twice as much and will quite a bit front loaded. I think Smurfs 1 had something like a 4x opening weekend multiplier . This being an established sequel I expect only a 3x multiplier but still close to or over $200 million

Even with all the competition? This has been such a loaded summer. People are still seeing Despicable Me 2, Monsters University, Turbo, etc.

Monsters University will make less than $1M this weekend, that wont hurt Smurfs 2

That's not my point. I don't know many families that see 4 movies in a row like that. If they saw Monsters "X" amount of weeks ago, they might not see another kid movie again so soon.

They certainly didn't see turbo and kids love smurfs . I think it's projected to make upwards of $700 million worldwide

Smurfs looks dreadful. The fact that the first made enough money to warrant a sequel is ****ing sad.

You really expect 2 Guns to have a $12,820 per-theatre-average and Smurfs 2 to have a $6,182 per-theatre-average?

The first film made over $560 world wide, and they expect the international numbers to climb on the sequel.

The US box office for Smurfs 2 is not very relevant.
