Well, it was said in a way that was really waving a finger at us. You did start the thread to really crap on the happiness about this release, right?

'Great you're happy, what about the rest of us?'

Now, with the key stuff out of the way, and the weight of constant barrage from the masses mitigated, such things as CC can be pushed harder.

I use Subtitles a LOT on movies, because I'm often watching movies with the kids asleep, so I don't want to wake them by cranking the sound. I've gotten used to it, and I honestly don't think there is a BIG enough difference between CC and Subtitles that this feature demands Sony's immediate attention ahead of more highly-demanded upgrades like DTS-MA for PS3.

Saying that Closed Captioning should come before DTS-MA is like asking Ford to make heated seats standard on all vehicles, but at the expense of air conditioning. Both are 'luxuries', but one is certainly going to be desired by the masses MORE than the other.

To the OP - Look at it this way: the Blu-ray spec is flexible and we know already that firmware can fix a multitude of things. If proper CC's aren't included on a particular movie disc, there's nothing to say that the CC track couldn't be downloaded to a PS3, and via a background application, be setup to run during a particular film. This option is TOTALLY possible. That's the beauty of Blu--it'll allow us to experience films like they SHOULD be, by all people. But chill out, don't dump all over us enthusiasts, and take your squeaky wheel to the people who can give it the oil. (Hint: Sony.)

Next up? who knows. Closed Captioning, DVR, movie suggestions and their trailers automatically downloaded for you - based on previous movies viewed. Anything's possible. Maybe the PS3 will hop off the shelf and make a frikken sandwich for you during the intermission of the Holy Grail or 2001 - I dunno.

I'm sorry, but I file your above statement along with those that claim that all chairs (including those on airplanes) should accommodate those with 500 lb. butts. No - they should not. But when possible - I certainly applaud any measures taken to include those that don't fall into general norms. But to suggest it is discrimination - a willful step taken to exclude a person or persons from common activities or services - borders on asinine, or at least inaccurate diction.

I hope we get CC functionality so you can enjoy movies ever more thoroughly.

Respectfully, Doc.

DTS HD Master Audio is important! We are missing out on audio quality with out it. I had no idea that closed caption was not supported by the PS3, and I hope they fix that short coming soon. As another person said just because the PS3 does not support closed captioning it does not make the support DTS MA any less important!

I would assist in any way i could to get these functions into the PS3... I'm just trying to help get this whole thing in a different light.
Never thought i'd agree with this guy, being a Liverpool fan myself, but, this is a very good point.

Another point to make is regarding the title of this thread. I whole heartedly disagree that DTS MA is not inportant. It obviously is to a large number of PS3 owners - its getting is own firmware update!!!

Ever since I started collecting VHS movies i wanted better picture, better sound, then in 1997 DVD was released Digital Picture & Sound good bye VHS 'say hello to my little friend' and now we have HDTV - HD movies and HD sound. For any movie fan - dvd/blu collector This is very important.

If CC is so important to you, why not buy a BD player that has CC?

And yes, DTS-HD is important. It appeals to a much wider spectrum of consumers. Where CC, only applies to a much smaller percentage.
Also, how would deaf people not benefit from DTS-HD? Then they can feel the bass

I think DTS-HD is just as important, to the people who want them.

As for close caption, of course it's important as well, to the people who need them. But that's no reason to throw DTS-HD out the window saying it isn't important.

I think what you should do if you want your voice be heard by the higher up, is to send a positive voice. To say DTS-HD is not important is just silly. It makes Sony not want to help you even more.

Positive voice and right mind set is the right way to go.

I disagree with Caligula, because the PS3 does NEED DTS-HD. However, the PS3 does need CC.

Ok I am going to try to reply to as many of these comments as possible all in one post. For the man that keeps saying that this thread is pointless, stop reading it. I thought the point of this forum was to discuss things that concern or interest us, therefore I am discussing it. If you don’t want to be involved, don’t be. I am not trying to be rude or come off like a mean person who only cares about CC, but the truth is that all movies, blu ray or not have sound. If you have a TV you have sound. PERIOD. As nice as upgrading to better sound would be, my point is that it is not MANDITORY in order for you to understand what is being said. Everyone wants to say how unimportant CC is but that is because you don’t NEED it in order to understand movies.

To the person that said compairing CC to a 500 pound person having seats to sit in, I STRONGLY disagree. That doesn’t even make any sense. Someone who is 500 pounds can lose weight. The weight they are most of the time is a choice. And if they wanted to they can change it. I can not change the fact that I am deaf, therefore I should not have to sit and deal with the fact that there is no CC. My main point is that the PS2 had CC available for all movies that have CC on the label. If you are going to make a new and better product, such as the PS3, they should have kept everything the same as the PS2 PLUS SOME!!!! Not taken things away that benefit close to one million Americans. Yes I said one million Americans, now do you think it is such a small group of people? Maybe one million is a small number compared to the number of hearing people in the world, but imagine one million more people buying PS3 and blu rays. That s a lot of people.

I come here to discuss things, I enjoy this site and to the people who have tried to see it from my perspective, thank you and I appreciate it. To the rest of the close minded people put there who think that everyone in the world is like you, maybe you should try to understand that others want to benefit from things too. Maybe I said it wrong when I said that it is NOT IMPORTANT, but all I was saying is that you have sound whether it is updated or not, I and the other one million people have nothing.

CC and subtitles…..here we go. Not all movies have subtitles and some of those that do only have foreign subtitles not English, so if that movie does not have CC as well, I cannot watch it, and that has happened many times. Also, not all movies have the subtitle or CC option at all so I cannot watch those either. And even though many movies have CC, I cannot watch them on PS3 because the PS3 does not offer CC. I think you would all agree that if the PS2 had DTS and then the PS3 came out and they took it away and said there is nothing they can do, you would all be upset as well. Or if your TVs stopped having sound, and you had to read like I do and then you realize that you cant watch half of the movies you love. I spend a lot of money on Blu rays and movies and I want to get everything I can out of them, just like you!

Anyway, I started a thread to make conversation about something and it has been blown out of proportion. I tend to have a way of coming off harsh, but English IS my 2nd language so sometimes I don’t know a better way to say something. I don’t want to start a war CC against DTS I just want people to understand that DTS REALLY is not as important as you think it is. CC is important to deaf people. As long as a movie has sound, You are all set and should not be putting me down or claiming that CC doesn’t matter. That’s not right. Take a radio away from a blind person who loves music. Its like that. There is just nothing left. Thank you for reading!

Caligula, first of all I hope you read my previous post, which is 2 post up from yours.

Second of all, paragraphs, make use of it.
If you write things that way, people will skim through and not get your full message.

If Sony were here they would ignore you, can't blame them, I would to if I were them. But I'm not ignoring you now because I'm trying to help you, to get your message straight.

Why does the PS3 NEED DTS-HD? Honestly i am curiou why it NEEDS it. DTS-HD is a want and a desire, not a need. CC may not be a need to you but it really is for some people. so please explain yourself because I am not following!

How can I blame them? They are a business, and business means busy. Meaning how do you know they are not planning PS3 to have CC now? We don't know that. But if they don't have close caption in mind, then let them know, let everyone here know, let everyone here help you spread the word if need be. But to come in and say DTS-HD is not important, the people who need them will not be happy, and therefore kill their reasons for helping you.
