Default Stupid Question about the PS3

Is there any way to get SD special features from a BD displayed in their (usually) original 4:3 ratio? Is this part of how all BD players are, or all PS3s are? Could it be caused by using an HDMI to DVI converter cable thingy?

It's most likely a setting on your TV. Sometimes there's a setting to always display in the OAR.

Yeah -- mine shows in 4:3 if something is 4:3. I have a setting on my TV for "dot by dot" so it will force something back into its original format.

I know a lot of older HDTVs wouldn't force it back into its original format (it'd stay in widescreen) but I would think most newer HDs will let you choose what you want the picture to do.

If it helps to know, it looks like the TV establishes a new connection with the PS3 when I start an SD extra, but it never does that otherwise. I guess my TV's pretty old for an HDTV. It's a CRT.

That's not the TV, it's the PS3. The PS3 drops its output when changing resolutions.

Update: I have since gotten a new TV (Samsung LN32A330, I think) and no longer have the issue. This new TV has HDMI ports. I think the converter was the issue.
