Fox must be making a killing (no pun intended) on its line of direct-to-DVD/Blu-ray sequels for Wrong Turn and Joy Ride. It's the only reason we can see them pushing forward with both franchises. While we await for the inevitable word that Wrong Turn 6 is in the works, Fox reps inform us today that Joy Ride 3 begins shooting September 3rd. The last installment in the series - Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead - arrived in 2008. Before that, let's not forget, the decent 2001 film Joy Ride with Paul Walker and Steve Zahn. "Horror auteur" (the press release's words, not ours) Declan O’Brien (Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings, Wrong Turn 5: Bloodlines) will direct from a script he penned. Rusty Nail is back on the road again looking to punish injustice at every turn — and this time it’s with a group of hotheaded street racers on their way to the Road Rally 1000. As they drive through a desolate shortcut on the way to the race, an encounter with Rusty turns sour and soon he is tracking, teasing and torturing them until the end of the road. Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will distribute in Summer 2014 on Blu-ray, DVD, Digital HD and VOD. |

I've seen and actually own part 2. Seems more like a regular horror movie than the first which was more of a suspenseful thriller.

I enjoyed Joy Ride 2 a lot. It's not a masterpiece and definitely not as great as the first, but for a Direct-to-DVD sequel it's really good. Could have even gone theatrical, IMO. I've been wondering why there hadn't been another yet when they continue to do Wrong Turn sequels. I'll definitely watch it, though I'm cautious as it's from the director of Wrong Turn 3 and 4 and those were not very good.
I'm actually surprised they have't done a Direct-to-DVD sequel for The Hills Have Eyes yet. Honestly I wish they'd turn the origin story from the comic book into a film. That was actually quite cool and would make a good movie. Could even go theatrical, but I wouldn't call it The Hills Have Eyes 3. I'd give it a subtitle. Maybe The Hills Have Eyes: Origins. |

Even though the second was godawful and seemed like it was written by a drunken frat boy I'd be game for a third from someone else. The "first" was awesome.
