No different than Pat Roach playing the bald German Mechanic (and giant sherpa) in Raiders of the Lost Ark, the Head Thuggee Guard in Temple of Doom, and a Gestapo agent in Last Crusade. (The part of Dovchenko in Crystal Skull clearly would have been his as well, but he died in 2004. )

We’re still shooting it right now. We’re about a month and a half away from finishing the production of it. It’s got the same kind of action beats in terms of the style of the action, but our approach this time is to go way more cinematic with it. We’re expanding the universe out. We’re taking the story out of that little claustrophobic setting and putting it out into the streets and into the high end gangsters in Jakarta. It’s a lot bigger in scope. So fingers crossed people will kind of come along for the ride again. We should be finished with post by the end of this year and then maybe early next year we can have the release.

Reaction to footage screened at Film4 Frightfest:

The audience at last night's Frightfest screening of V/H/S 2 got a special surprise. Gareth Huw Evans (as co-director of one of the segments) came in for the screening, and he brought with him a world exclusive clip from The Raid 2: Berandal.

While The Raid 2 begins two hours after the story of the first film ends, the narrative spans about four years, according to Evans, so is much broader in scope. With that in mind, the clip introduces us to a new character. Her name is Hammer Girl. Evans described her fighting style as 'hari mau'. Apparently it means 'tiger style', and it looks outstanding (It's the same style Iko Uwais uses in Merantau).

The clip we saw is from an action scene on a moving subway car: Hammer Girl against a bunch of guys in suits. The clip was only a few minutes long, but it was enough to see that not only have Evans and his crew maintained the freshness and brilliance of the first film, finding new and inventive ways to present action and martial arts, but they've gone above and beyond by exploring new spaces and (obviously) new characters.

I have a hard time believing that a sequel could work. The first film barely had a plot and the ending tied up all of the loose ends. And by the looks of it, it's going to be an in-name-only sequel designed for the Eli Roths of the world.

Let's not judge, the first film ended on the tease of a bigger threat (remember the head cop only choice was to kill himself after finding out he had been set up for a foil). I'm interested to see how the sequel will do with more space for ambition, after all it's not like the first films plot really took center stage, it was the great action choreography.

I just hoping this doesn't go too cartoonish with gimmicky characters like Hammer Girl.

The Raid was filmed and released before Dredd.

Dredds script had been around since 2008 and started filming before The Raid. The Raid just got out first.

I feel like your first post was kidding around, but the next one where you defended the point that Dredd was in production long before The Raid made it seem like you were definitely serious. Sorry for the mistake

I prefer Dredd for its story elements, but The Raid is much better in action obviously
