Default Question for you Direct Tv HD subscribers

Well, I was just talking to a representative and somehow I got cut off. I was under the assumption that I needed a new dish. Do you? She said no but I was almost sure you needed the HD dish. She basically said all I needed was the HD receiver and I'm good 2 go! I'm sure I'll need an hdmi as well. So is this correct? I guess my best bet is to pick it up @ Best Buy right? Thanks.

Do you know what kind of dish you have right now? They can look and see what you have, so they should know if you needed different equipment. So I assume you are correct that all you need is an HD receiver or HD DVR. DirecTV sells the DVR's direct for $299 and the receivers for $199 (or $99 sorry I can't remember) but I'm sure you can find it cheaper elsewhere.

in order to pick up the new HD channels they keep adding you'll need the oval 5LNB dish and the newer receiver as far as I know. I had the oval 3LNB dish and an older Hd receiver and in order to get the new channels and HD locals I had to upgrade. They upgraded me for free though. Good luck on that.

You do need a 5LNB dish and directv receiver that can pick up the MPEG-4 channels.

Not too sure what dish I have. I'd say it's 7 years old though. Which is primarily why I was shocked I didn't need one.

You do need the new dish for sure and if you can get a better deal on the receiver if you tell them you will cancel the service.

My HD receiver came with a HDMI cable. They should upgrade your dish for free, you'll need the oval one.

If possible go with Directv for the upgrade... If you have some of the older stuff they upgrade for free as noted previously. They upgraded my Dish and my receivers for free. You do need the 5lnb dish. But they brought the HDMI cables with them and did all the work. Plus they lease the receivers now so its a lot easier to upgrade in the future.. If you buy from a retailer its like $500+ and you pay to upgrade later... I pay $29 to upgrade

HDMI is really just a convenience thing for DirecTV. The output is 720p/1080i. When they installed mine, they hooked it up via component. When I switched to HDMI, there was no change at all in video quaility. If you are using a receiver, the receiver will output 5.1 SS when it is part of programming, so keep that in mind with your audio setup.
