Any article that starts out by mentioning Amir from Microsoft without mentioning the propaganda machine's numerous deceitful posts at AVS isn't worth the bandwith it uses. I've seen this guy in action. He should be working in politics he's so full of shit!

Yes - He is most definitely a propoganda machine. You can't go to your neighbor's enemy to get a good report on the type of person your neighbor is, you need to go to your neighbor directly.
Amir is not stupid, but he is a wizard at spinning things the way he wants others to hear them and totally ignores any relevant shortcomings of HD-DVD. Flat out ignores those comments like they didn't occur. He is very quick to put down Blu-Ray while not actually supporting the benefits of either format... Purely a smear campaign. I don't have any specific bias against HD-DVD but I think that the greater storage capacity and faster transfer rates are a good thing for consumers which we will benefit from in the long run. If HVD was in full swing, I would back that up in a second as it should be ten fold what either technology is. Yet, people look at Betamax which was not co-developed by a dozen other major players in the A/V world as the constant example of what Blu-Ray will be. Very, VERY poor arguement. Especially from the M$ machine. A specific lie from Amir that gets repeated daily by HD-DVD supporters: "HD-DVD discs will cost less than Blu-Ray discs" The reality is that all reports are that the discs will cost the same... exactly the same to consumers. Yet this misinformation is STILL being spewed from the HD-DVD camp. I'll wait for a year or two to see where the dust settles - and I will wait for my PS3 to come to the market. |

I really don't really care on whether HD-DVD or Blu-Ray will "win" the "format war" and I suppose it is the nature of one respective camp to support their own technology versus another, but I have heard good and bad things about his philosophy of the current situation. Besides the point, I am a little bit concerned that early adopters of HDTVs such as myself with only analog component inputs will be left out in the cold so to speak. Which-ever format that is easier to implement an ICT disable option will be the format of choice for me personally. End of story.

Indeed, this story reeks of Amir's FUD. Actually, I've been hearing the same crap from hmurchison over at AppleInsider, who of course loves to quote straight from Amir. It appears to be nothing more than Microsoft attempting to spin things so that they may get iHD, their software, on the next generation HD format. I can see them, Microsoft, charging incessantly outrageous license fees if they are to get their wish as well. I don't know about you guys, but the farther away Microsoft is from my living room experience, the better. I'll take Java anyday, thank you.
Regarding which format will be the victor, I sure hope Blu-ray will, not only for its increased storage capacity and interactive features, but also for its potential (and in some opinions that potential is already a reality with demonstrations of wool pads, screwdrivers, dirt, and ink being applied to a Blu-ray disc with proper playback still being achieved. Try that with a HD DVD disc as it will have the same protection as current DVD!) in being a more durable disc. I just think Blu-ray is the more advantageous format for the consumer. In HD DVD, I can't help to think of it as nothing more than a format that attempts to save manufacturers, not consumers, money while all the time providing technology that is antiquated. |

Question:
![]() Apart from the price, what else is HD DVD offering? Where is Blu-ray lacking that someone would support HD DVD instead? |
