New PS3 80 GB coming in June!? (just the MGS4 bundle)

Yesterday, I went to one of the Best Buy stores in my area and planned on buying a stand-alone blu-ray player since I don't play games very often. This stupid employee came up to me and told me to hold on to my money until June because a new 80 Gig version will coming out. I haven't had the time to do the research to see if it's true. Can anyone do me the favor and do the research for me?

It also comes with a Duel shock 3 controller. No word if it has Sacd support like the current 80gig.

Why is the employee stupid? Sounds like a good tip to me.

I think he's stupid in that he ruined the chance that the buyer would be taking home a shiny new blu-ray player and realized he'd have to wait a bit longer...sometimes you wish the employees didn't know so much.

Well, yeah the employee was maybe a bit over zealous.

First you would inform the client of the arrival of a new version, but also inform said client that the prices of the bundle will be superior.

Put out the + of each versions (PS3 40Gb $399 vs PS3 80Gb MGS4 bundle $499), and let the client decide

Not only will the prices be superior but they will be very, very , limited according to Konami. Im pretty sure he doesnt want to fight MGS4 fanatics tooth and nail for a blu ray player (he says he doesnt really care about games). So id say the employee was pretty stupid.

Only the Gunmetal Grey Limited Edition PS3 MGS4 bundle is in very limited supply, I'm sure there'll be plenty of regular Black 80GB PS3 MGS4 bundles.

From what I have read in the news, there are two 80GB Bundles coming to the United States.

1) Black 80GB with DS3 and MGS4
2) Steel 80GB with DS3 and MGS4

They will both retail for $499.99 unless Sony drops a bombshell and lowers the price by then or at the time of release of the two bundles.

As far as Japan, I believe they are getting the Steel PS3 while there is no word yet on Europe. However, Europe is getting a 40GB GTA-IV Bundle - no word on whether or not this bundle is also coming to the USA or Japan.

Anyway, the more important question is how do you frequent these forums and NOT know about this bundle? Someone posts about it just about every day and it's been in the news for about 2 months.

a bb employee told a customer i was next to the same thing when i was in the isle looking for gt5.

he said it will be a slight modification to the current sku, he said it will have a better graphics card, etc. etc. but i couldnt really hear since i had one ear piece on. last word i heard from him was Sony PR told them.

Gamestop also recently told me that their Sony reps said that the MGS4 Bundle would be out April 28th. You can't alway trust them.
