Sounds like what he is trying to say (the OP) , is that he is using a sound matrix after the signal is sent to the receiver. The answer would be no, you are not listening to DTS_HDMA because the receiver is tweaking the sound.

The other posters are correct, you dont want to run it as 2 channel. Not sure why you would ever wanna do that really...

My suspicion is that an optical cable is being used, but I can't be positive. If not, then I'm really not sure why the PS3 would automatically just be sending out 2.0 PCM, unless the OP went in and unchecked all of those for some reason...

Oh, from what i gathered, it sounded like he did purposely only check 2.0 pcm. very confusing question here from the OP

on the Settings-->Sound Settings--->Audio Output Settings, when you select HDMI, make sure PCM 5.1 Ch and 7.1 Ch are selected and that PCM 2.1 Ch is NOT selected.

I thought so too, but then he threw this in:

Not a huge deal, but it really doesn't matter that they are. Mine turns them on automatically. But he DOES need to make sure the others ARE.

i think he is using an HDMI cable...cause if he wasn't and was using Optical and set the Audio Output Settings under BD Audio Output Format to HDMI, he wouldn't hear anything from the AV and speakers.

No.

True, was just trying to eliminate the possiblity that the AV was "asking" for 2 Ch even though the PS3 was "offering" to send 5.1/7.1 Ch

This is true... it's been confusing on a number of levels, so I've kind of just been throwing things and hoping they stick. I wouldn't completely throw out the possibility that he actually has audio going out via optical, and NOT HDMI at this point...

I haven't thrown out incorrect information, though.

Several things just don't make sense...

I hear ya. Yea, this should work from what it sounds like. On a side note, this reminds me, time for me to upgrade to a 605 or something since i'm running audio through optical and can only get 2 Ch PCM for Linear PCM so i'm still stuck with 5.1 DTS

If the PS3 is auto detecting 2 Ch PCM, then thats all he is going to get. He is either using Optical or has a bad PS3 or HDMI cable.

The auto-detecting thing is the only reason I questioned at whether or not he was actually using HDMI...

I have a 605 as well but I'm not sure I understand the relevance of the "HDMI audio output: On" setting. It sounds like you need to change your "Listening Mode" to something like Direct, so that it takes in the processed signam from the PS3 and plays it as is. Since the PS3 is decoding the DTS-HDMA track (as it is shown when you display the info on the TV screen), it is then sending the decoded information to the 605 in LPCM.

The 605 will NOT display on the receiver that it is playing/decoding a DTS-HDMA track, but if you have your 605 set to Direct, you should hear all the DTS-HDMA goodness.

Unless I totally misunderstood something.
