What's the point of this thread anyways? All this is going to turn into is a favorite film list.

I'm not the only one questioning the need for 4K but apparently my disinterest in it really bothers him.
So, there is no need for improvement and progress? Would you prefer that bluray is obsolete and we can all admire four different tones of sky resembling a 8 bit computer game, which streaming often provides? There is always room for improvement , especially with home cinema.

I'm interested in 4K but I doubt I'll rebuy many (if any) movies that were made more than 5 years ago on it. I will definitely do thorough research with reviews and screenshots on each movie before I even consider a purchase.
Plus, there isn't a huge difference between 2K digital cinema and 1080p. 4K was designed for large commercial projection venues where the screens are measured in feet. 4K for the home is overkill in the vast majority of setups.

There is definitely room for improvement and future movies will benefit greatly from 4K (or higher). But the vast majority of movies that currently exist will never look significantly better than they do on Blu-ray.

I'm well aware that film is inherently higher resolution than 1080p. Just because an older movie was recorded in a higher resolution than 1080p doesn't mean the camera captured more detail than 1080p can show.

I am all for improvement, but why don't we wait until Blu-ray is the predominant format before replacing it. This is more of the CE industry desperation moves.

I would wholly support a new BD profile that increased color resolution and other things. Other formats got incremental upgrades without having replace all the equipment in your change.

4K will happen eventually but BD is not regularly outselling DVD. I just think its way too way early for another format.

4K is really a joke. They want us to buy it but the only thing that is going to be widely available for viewing is 1080 content upscaled.

Certainly when a 4k disc format is avalible I would be sure to buy on new movies from then on in the format. As for catalog titles I would only upgrade both for titles with a genuine 4k source not a fake upconversion from a lower quality source (many recent HD shot movies and series were shot at a resolution well below 4k) and for a title I love not like since the jump from 1080p to 2160p will not be nearly as great as the leap from 480p to 1080p unless the 4k format uses a better color bitmap

I would say Blade Runner and all the Kubrick films
Also Star Wars.

I saw the Sony 4K tv today and what really impressed was the depth in the picture. This is a LCD so it will look even better on a OLED with much better contrast.
Can't waite to get "MA & PA Kettle Back On The Farm" in 4K, boy that will make my day!

More and more content will become available, just like HD.

Default okaaaaaay ...maybe I'm missing the point here, but ...

Wasn't the whole point of this thread

WHAT MOVIES WILL YOU GET IN 4K?

Not whether or not you support/believe in/even want or care for the format... In other words ...if 4K becomes the 'standard', which movies do you think you'll 'upgrade' (repurchase in the new format?).

I must not understand either. The question was 'what movies will you get in 4k'.

Why are 'none' or 'not too many' or 'eh, I'll wait and see' inappropriate responses?

The question seems to assume that everyones favorite titles eventually getting 4k releases is a certainty. The question is absurd when no specs for a 4k disc format have been announced yet much less any title announcements. With the coming economic crash I would say its likely nobodies favorite titles will get 4k releases. People like their technology but when the choice is between 4k resolution and food to prevent their family from starving which do you think people will choose

As others have pointed out in the grand scheme of things there really aren't a lot of films that have be archived in 4K or higher resolution. A BD copy that comes from a high quality source can look pretty dam good even home theater size projection setups.

Look if it takes off and eventually comes down in price I may consider upgrading equipment and some titles but I doubt there is going to be enough of a difference on most titles.
I think the point is why post on this topic if you are not interested in 4k?

(to be read in the voice of Adam Sandler's immortal character Robert 'Bobby' Boucher Jr.) - "Well ...um ...the truth of the matter is ...wha...what I mean to say is ...that might very much depend upon whu ...which movies are made available to the general movie viewing public ...and whu ...um ...which family members you are talking about who may be afflicted with the ...um starvation. Because umm ...we really likes our movies in this here forum ...I'm ...uh... I'm'a just saying is all."
