Why don't you just test it yourself. You have the gear.

Just remember, your reciever will show "Multi-channel" or some such, and will not show DTS HD MA or TrueHD, even though that's what you're hearing.

Yes, more empirical data was needed ! However, sometimes life has a sneaky way of playing tricks on people. Like me.

I can assure you that the 1057 will accept multi-channel PCM info over the HDMI connection. If you haven't already tried it out, now is the time!

And as someone else said, toss that optical cable out the window!

It Rocks If I can't get the HD codecs out of this one, I will save up for the "Rumored" New Rotel's comming out by the end of the year ! And THEN the circle will be COMPLETE !

Rotel specifically states that the hdmi inputs are "video" inputs. If you look in the hookup portion of the owner's manual it shows 2 different pieces using hdmi for video with a separate hookup for audio. http://www.rotel.com/content/manuals/rsx1057.pdf

it can't hurt to try it out. just hook up the ps3 via the hdmi set ps3 to decode the audio and if you get sound its hd audio if no sound then your SOL.

my denon avr-688 had HDMI and I ASSumed it was take video and audio. boy was i wrong it was only video and I had to use the toslink for audio well that only lasted for about 2 days then I was off buying a new receiver

Rotel is not coming out with anything that will decode the HD codecs anytime soon. Their latest pre-pro, the RSP-1069 was released in late October, less than 6 months ago and it is HDMI 1.1. People need to realize that companies like Rotel do no have the R&D dollars of mainstream companies like Onkyo etc. Expecting a product from them with all the bells and whistles is silly, especially when all the bells and whistles are not needed to take advantage of listening to HD audio. You want all the bells and whistles, then get an Onkyo. You want quality (both sonically and in build) then get a Rotel. Too many people forget about sound quality and go after the latest gimmicky thing. You have a player (PS3) that fully decodes both HD formats, why do you need a pre/pro to do that again? You aren't bit-streaming anything. It's completely pointless. Take a step back and evaluate what it is you are buying, and then ask why you are buying it and what you are gaining from your purchase.

I agree with you ! I did say it was a rumor that I heard from the dealer that Rotel will release new products that will have the HD sound. They say the R&D was just waiting out the format war. Now, they are moving forward. Marantz has their new models slated for a June 07 release and they have the new HD codecs. You are right about sonic quality. It does sound sweet !

What i'm saying is that unless you plan on getting a player that you will use to bitstream HD Audio to your AVR or Pre/Pro, then you're just wasting your money for something you won't use. If your player already decodes HD Audio and your receiver accepts LPCM over HDMI, you are already hearing lossless tracks. If the PS3 will be your player of choice, you do not need an AVR or pre/pro to decode anything.

The 1058 will. I suggested you exchange your 1057 for that, instead of saving for a receiver to decode HD Audio, when your PS3 already does it.

Ahh, yes. I took your suggestion to the place where I bought it. They said no deal. Since I bought it back in July they would take a loss on the trade in. Great idea if it worked though. I saw your post and called them right away ! Thanks

I was under the impression that you just got this receiver based on your first post. Yeah dude, it's been like 9 months.

Sell it on audiogon and take it as a lesson learned I guess.
