When Echo Bridge gets their hands on an HD master, I'm sure they'll release it, but as far I've heard, they only have a full screen copy that looks like a VHS rip on DVD.

And the Aussie release of Hellraiser III is 1080i/50. Ridiculous to go the PAL route, just to get a BD print out. At least it was printed clearly on the back of the slipcover.

Aussie distributors did the same with Pulp Fiction (1080/50i) to beat other countries to the market I assume (Pulp Fiction was very popular in Australia, I remember it was sold out early at the cinemas one Friday night, way back in '94 when I tried to go to a screening).

Alas, I bought the Aussie BD release of Pulp Fiction, not ever thinking it would be a PAL transfer.
Resolved the issue when I Imported a UK (1080p/24) copy and gifted the 1080i/50.

Beware of Hellraiser III - Umbrella entertainment release. And also investigate other releases from them. HR3 is not the only release they have used an ancient PAL transfer.

It's coming from Arrow guys. Just a trilogy limited edition box now, but normal releases will come later.

So do you think Hellraiser III will get an individual release?

It's possible, but it will take a while. I was more referring to a cheaper trilogy box when the limited edition sells out. Not sure why you guys would want the third movie without the great new versions of the first two anyway?

Because I already have the double feature with the first two movies.

Well if you don't care about a massive improvement in visuals and extras one wonders why you don't just stick with the third movie on DVD.

I am the oddball.

I don't care for the first 2.

There may be one other person in the world who thinks as I do.

$100 is to rich for my blood even if I kind of liked them all.

But I think the company knows their market,
and
I respect those with tastes different than mine.

Couldn't care less for extras and the Blu-ray double feature looks great, way better than DVD. That's why I own the double feature. If they never release Hellraiser III as a stand alone on Blu-ray, whatever. It isn't that great of a movie. If they do, great, I may get it. But I'm not going to buy that overpriced set just for the third movie when I already have the first two movies.

If you only want III, you might want to avoid the Arrow sets or individual releases because it's misframed. It's way off center, and there are edges of sets showing, as well as the mechanics of a couple of special effects. If you're region A only, you can always get the Japanese release, which I have. I thought it looked decent when I watched it, but I should point out that it's only the theatrical version. If you're region free, there's always the German release, but I haven't seen it. I believe there are caps still up on caps-a-holic.

There is a Japanese Blu-ray that is Region Free?

Tell me more.

I guess I just don't understand people who care enough to buy blu-rays but don't care enough to buy new remasters. But hey, you do you.

CDJapan has it available:

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/KIXF-4026

It states region free on the site, but I didn't check the region coding on mine. It doesn't matter though because Japan is also region A, something you should keep in mind for future purchases. Menus can sometimes be a little difficult to navigate, but Hellraiser III starts right up without one and I just remove the subtitles with the remote.

dead thread but anyone know why arrow didn't release this in the US along with 1 & 2? iirc they already released the trilogy as a box set that's been long oop. so why no solo release for 3?

They probably thought it wouldn’t sell well enough.

They probably don't have the rights to 3 anymore, which would be the logical reason why they stopped printing the box set.

Hellraiser III is owned by Miramax in the US (with Lionsgate at the time distributing Miramax titles). It was a rare one off licencing deal with Lionsgate, who only granted Arrow the licence to include it in the US Scarlet Box set (which was also in limited quantities anyway) and not stand alone. Arrow's UK trilogy set with III is still in print because Lakeshore owns international rights and were easier to deal with there than with Miramax/Lionsgate in the US.

Hopefully, with Miramax now owned by Paramount, Shout can release a collector's edition of Hellraiser III.
