Default Using the ps3's internet browser

I have found out that certain pages on the ps3's internet browser do not display correctly. One such example is that if you go to us.playstation.com and then click on the ps3 tab, the animation does not display. You are told that you don't have the latest version of the flash player. You go to the website, but no version of flash exists for what you're using. Is there a flash player that you can get for the ps3? I also found out that if you go to ps3.ign.com or any section of the ign.com website, the browser will freeze on you, unless I didn't wait long enough.

yeah. I remember my friend used the "Install Other OS" option on the PS3 to install some windows files - one of them being flash 8. He could then use flash 8, shockwave, etc on the ps3s web browser.

Im not sure exactly how to do this though. Google it.

Besides that- you'll just have to wait for a firmware update to add Flash 8 support. Its pretty retarded that you cant even view the official playstation site with your playstation though. :/

Well you can install another os and use any browser you want, a os is a operating system.

From my limited research on the subject there using a netfront browser and at this time it uses flash light, this is a special version of flash designed by the folks that make flash now for mobile devices.

Unfortuntly flash light is not fully capable of dealing with flash 8 or so objects, Im not sure how much control sony has, how much api control they have over the browser, but it gets sharper every time.

Bye

No. It wasn't like he installed a version of linux or anything like that. It was an exploit in one of the firmware versions im pretty sure.

Nevermind. ignore me... I barely even know what im talking about.

He could have even been lieing. Its not like i actually knew the guy. He was just some guy i met on warhawk and added to my friends list. He hasnt been online in a while either...

It's not really a big deal or anything. I don't mind waiting for a firmware update. The ps3's browser was viewed as a starting point for sony and while it has improved, it could still use some work. I think that sony will iron out the bugs in the browser at some point. Maybe it'll be included in the next firmware update. I hear in game XB is being worked on right now.

Ive been on ign with my ps3 and it seemed fine. But aside from other sites i think will be awhile cause for now since theres not a anti virus program for ps3 they have to be careful about what is being loaded up and so on. Id rather not have it go brick on me just for surfing.

Nothing can be loaded to your PS3 browser off of the internet except for Videos, music, and photos that are supported by the PS3. It also prompts you to let you know that it wants to download something and then you can select yes or no.

Also, i dont think a PS3 virus will ever be developed. I dont even think it could ever happen unless you were to take your hard-drive out -> put the virus on the HDD -> then put it back into the PS3. o.o
Heck, that wouldnt even be possible since you'd need to format it to put the virus on, and you'd need to format it when you stick it back into the PS3.

Anyway - point is, i dont think a ps3 brick could ever be caused by the web browser... Even if they gave us flash.
You cant load anything off flash, and even if you could- they PS3 would just prompt you anyway. and it would have to be a video, music, o..... Im repeating myself.

The only real concern that anyone has is the giving out of credit card numbers to a fraudulent person, such as going to fake websites and giving your credit card numbers and social security numbers.

This is actually what caused alot of debate by a simple misunderstand, a company known for anti virus suites realized alot of folks could be siced by
a fake website, perhaps a site with a prompt to enter credit card numbers.

They made a comment that ps3 users were suspectible to this, sadly the masses did not see that and instead saw the following:

[Show spoiler]VIRUSES YOU NEED ANTI VIRUS OR YOU WILL BRICK

While not the truth the masses were very frightened... so a special software can be activated in your browser to help yourself protect yourself from giving away information such as credit card numbers on fake websites...

While its made by a A/V company it is not a anti virus suite its more or less a condom for the internet.

flash is definitely important but i want to be able to listen to www.di.fm since i'm a pro member there. it would be awesome if i could stream music from that website. You guys know if i will be able to do that for sure if i install linux or think that it coudl be supported further down the road. The music doesn't play directly from the website but from an external player.

Linux is a operating system like windows, it comes in many flavors its generally distributed for free.

It would work similar to a normal computer, or should anyway.

Its highly likely you would be able to listen to your music, but remember the ps3 os is a hypervisor and sits on top of everything.
