As stated in one of my previous threads, I've used up about 35GB worth of space on my PS3 already. So now Im looking for an upgrade. Did some research on newegg and I narrowed down the few listed below:
7200 RPM Drives: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822146053 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822146053 SATA 3.0GB/s: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822149058 16MB Cache Drives: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822149030 Any suggestions, Pro/Con between them, or owner experience? |

So does the PS3 have a format command if the disc is totally blank? Probably a stupid question, but just checking...

I had some of the same questions, do all those hard drives work with the PS3? actually I'm just wondering about the 160gb.

I now have a 160 GB PS3. It is very simple to replace, you just need a decent, small phillips head screwdriver. Back up your stuff before you do it.
Also there is a command in the settings menu called Restore PS3. DO NOT use this to restore your back up. The correct command is in the system back-up menu item. Like a goof, I used that command and had to reset all my settings. HDMI, resolution, sound, users etc. PITA |

I used a 2GB SD micro card I have for my MP3 player - Sandisk Sansa (put the micro into the regular SD card adaptor). Unfortunately the ps3 couldn't recognize the Sansa as a removable drive (must be NTSC file system on the Sansa?), so I had to delete all my Game install files. You can replace those by sticking in the disk and redoing the install. The important stuff to back up is your game saves and any of your own videos and pictures you don't have elsewhere. A USB hard drive or USB key would work well also, but I only have a small USB drive - 250 meg I think. The PS3 told me I needed 9 GB until I deleted the game install data and a couple of trailers.
Hope that rambling paragraph helps ![]() |

All of the removal drives connected via the USB ports, including external HDDs, must be in FAT32 format and not NTFS. Most flash drives are in FAT32.

Hmm... So would you have any idea why my Sansa wouldn't work as a removable drive while in MSC mode? PS 3 doesn't show it on any of the menus when I plug it in through USB. It charges the battery, but can't play the music off of it?
![]() I use it as a removable drive for my computer when I need one because I'm only using up about half of the 8GB. ![]() |
