I also heard they didn't put all that much memory in it cuz the PS3 didn't need it due to the ultra powerful cell processor. There's very little contention between the two.

Go look at the specs. PS3 has 256MB CPU, 256 GPU, 7x256MB SPE. None of them can share memory. 360 has a 512MB CPU/GPU that can share. As long as you program the game to utlilize the SPEs you have more than enough. Developers are used to the GPU and CPU sharing and thats how they make the games, then when the PS3 can't do that and they have to build to the Cell they complain saying that the system doesn't have enough memory, when in reality they aren't making the game properly. This problem will actually end up helping the PS3 has developers will want to build to the PS3 instead of the 360, because PS3 to 360 ports = easy, 360 to PS3 ports = hard. PS3 is a big enough market now, that they aren't going to want to miss it.

sorry, im retarded. 256KB per SPE, not MB. Still, CPU and GPU have the same amount of memory as 360, just not as flexible. Then, the Cell offers even more memory. The thing has enough memory.

Again-correct me if I'm wrong-I believe he is pointing out the fact that the USB door is broken/staying open- Not the "ring of death" because the ring of death is a ring-not the 3 indicators lighting up.

Indicator lights are green, ring of death is red and made up of 3 lights. the picture shows a hardware malfunction.

OK- I'm red/green color blind-so lights like that are hard for me to see. Every launch has it's "hardware malfunctions" though...I guess it's the price gamers pay.

Yeah this is on a ridiculous scale. I know not every system has a hardware failure but only one of my friends has not had to return his 360. Guarenteed MS knew that they were releasing a faulty product in order to have no competition so they could gain market share.

Yeah, but the PS2 didn't have these problems til later in its life, PS3 hasn't had these problems, Nintendo doesn't have these problems. I mean its one thing to be having red diodes go bad after a year or so and getting the infamous "disc read error". its another when 20% of the systems are having hardware malfunctions (i believe this is the official estimate). MS had to have tested these before they launched and knew that a lot had hardware issues.

I totally agree-it apparently does happen a lot-I've never experienced it with mine but I've heard of people that have. It's a "necessary evil" if you will. It's something they dont' have figured out. It's almost MS's M.O.- what product of a MS's that comes out doesn't have a ton of problems when it comes out-but that doesn't force people to buy Linux and boycott Windows. To each their own-if you want to put up with it-put up with it. I haven't had any problems with either my360 or PS3 so I'm happy with both.

Ya, I picked on up at roughly $500. So HDMI 1.2 and 120G drive.
I had returned my 20G 360 which I paid about $300 (after rebate and this deal is over so I can't get this back). So fack....I paid an additional $200 for some Fud HDMI and an extra $100G that I won't use. I know I ****ed up but what the heck. I am picking up a 24inch computer monitor with HDMI slots to play with this soon so hopefully I can forget about this. |
