I know it is not uncommon for retailers to card people for R rated films, but a friend of mine tried to buy Man of Steel last night and was asked for his ID to confirm his age. He's 29. lol This is the first time I've ever witnessed this and it's pretty ridiculous. I can see carding someone for an R rated or unrated movie, but a PG-13 movie?! Seriously?! What if someone 14 or 15 wants to buy it and doesn't have any form of ID yet?

I haven't but I know it does happen. having worked in retail, I know some people just do it for everyone. those people are usually not popular. don't know what the rating is but a friend of mine got carded when he went to but Zombieland and he is mid 20's and doesn't have that much of a babyface.

Giant Eagle. lol So most people won't even know what store it is, but I hope other retailers don't start this. It doesn't affect me at all, but they're basically preventing some people from buying the movie because of it. That's just really dumb, IMO. It's freaking Superman!!!!! lol

I have not. But I did have a strange experience with Best Buy.
About three weeks ago, I tried to buy The Fly (1986), Adaptation., and Chopping Mall/Waxwork 8 pack. I was carded for the 8 pack and Adaptation but not The Fly, arguably the most violent and disturbing one. I am 16, and walked out with only The Fly. I also did NOT get carded when buying the original Evil Dead there. The MPAA re-rated it NC-17!!! Last edited by demonknight; 11-13-2013 at 11:47 PM. |

The Breakfast Club is rated R and Walmart always cards people buying R rated movies.

Predator is rated R. It is not uncommon for getting carded to buy R rated films. I started this thread because I know someone who got carded buying a PG-13 rated movie. Not very common.

I think most retailers are required to card on certain things anymore if something on the register prompts them too. I'm 47 and I got carded for COD: Ghost last week. The cashier had to scan my drivers license. And while I look good for 47, there is no way to you'd confuse me with anyone under the age of 35

Many retailers have an ID check built in the software they run on the registers. It forces the cashier to key in or swipe an ID for any age restricted item.
I've seen senior citizens have their ID checked for certain over the counter medicines or alcohol. They are clearly old enough to buy the product but the register won't move forward with the transaction until the ID is taken care of. It eliminates liability for the store, because if employees screw up and sell something to a person underage the cashier is not personally responsible, the company is. It's the company protecting itself. |

Between the ages of about 13-16 (I'm 19 now), me and my younger brother would bike to the nearby mall and browse inside FYE. I (we) never got carded for buying R-rated movie and unrated movies. One of them was Hell Ride. Haha. I could probably have bought Cannibal Holocaust (which was indeed there) and they wouldn't have said anything. I don't know how we got away with that for so long, they didn't care.
