Default Why isn't this forum getting any love?

This used to be the most popular, thread-filled forum on these boards. What happened? I konw it happened when they grouped it with what it is now and changed the name. Why?

We can't argue that HD-DVD is better..

The changes were based on input from the forum members. I think it will take a little while for the users to adapt to the new layout. However, I will admit that the amount of posts/threads have decreased considerable since the inception of the changes. Something for the administrators to keep a close eye on.

He (the OP) is refering to the changes that have been made (within the last week) to the way that the home page is organized. Specifically to the categorization and organization of forum threads.

personally, i hate the new layout.

i dont check here for updates or new threads or replies nearly as often as before because its just harder to find the ones youre interested in. scrolling and scanning through all these different categories. takes too much time and concentration on my part to sit and look for interesting topics or threads that strike my fancy

I think there has been a continual dropoff since just after the end of the format war. When HD-DVD died there seemed to be a bit of an increase with the trolls, but things have calmed down now. Now the controversy is out of the way, things seem to have settled down to talking about movies and releases rather than about fanboys.

I don't know about the rest but I pretty much stopped reading dvdtalk and come exclusively here now. What I do think will be good is editorials and weekly newsletters. Gives us something to debate about. As much as it is a dead touchy subject to ***** about Paramount or lack of quality titles etc, it gets the natives riled up. I think its a good thing.

I never view the homepage as far as the latest posts, always just the News

A big reason for changing "general" is that it was effectively redundant to "blu-ray movies". The amount of duplicates/merging/moving whatever really took up a pile of time to keep it all straight.

The decrease in traffic is much more because that crossposting has been virtually eliminated

Both formats have their advantages. Unfortunately it's impossible to please everyone, but as the userbase seems very split over this change we're considering making it possible for users to select which version they want. This type of customization has been in the plans for a long time, but we haven't really felt that we've needed it until now. Lets just say that this shouldn't become a permanent problem.

I really preferred the old presentation, "general discussion" may have been chaotic at times, but it was easy to go there when you could always find some topics that interested you, now it's quite restrictive ; the "home theater" section is too big now, could have been stuck to 3 sub categories.
Blu-ray technology and news is becoming "general discussion" and we don't know what to find there as they're two very different themes ... so people will rather not post as they don't understand.
