Default Iron Man - Review Thread

It was fun and exciting and pure popcorn. The origin story was good enough and the smart enough to incorporate pseudo-science and current tech. It would've been a bit better if it had dug emotionally deeper but that's probably not what the comic was.

Acting wise, it was credible through and through. Downer Jr is great as Stark and a perfect choice. Paltrow is fun as the smart Potts and Bridges is insidious as Stane. Howard almost didn't have much to do. Clarke Gregg is a great casting choice.

The VFX was great for the most part; the animation of Mark II and the action sequences was pretty amazing to watch. Sound design was fantastic during the opening sequence but later on got toned down due I believe to PG-13 guidelines. The film didn't have a lot of cinematic shots.

The film does have a lot of replayability factor so it'll be a great addition to BD later in the year. Remember, if you've seen the movie and want to discuss plot details, use the [ spoiler] tags. I'll contribute one below.

[Show spoiler]Sam Jackson looks badass as Nick Fury.

I believe it's about two hours. I'd get an accurate measurement but by then my tank was full and I was ACHING to get to the bathroom. And then the spoiler came on.

There will also be a similar spoiler at the end of the credits of Hulk to tie them together.

Plus there are usually screenings for critics and also contest viewings from radio stations and the like.

Stern started the show praising "Iron Man" but those guys get paid to talk..... but they seem somewhat genuine.

I'm assuming your talking about Howard Stern here?...Anyway...usually when the movie is pretty bad he won't talk about if its being advertised on his show but i heard one of his interns praising it on Mondays show as well. But honestly i don't take anybodys review seriously even coming from the king of all media himself. The trailer looks good enough for me...

Letterman was gushing over it last night too. He kept saying he couldn't believe he would like a movie like this as much as he did.

He's probably paid to say that as well, but I've seen him be less than kind about guests' movies.

I posted this in the other Iron Man review thread, but thought it should go in here as well.

I'm in the UK and saw the early afternoon preview screening about 6/7 hours ago and can honestly say i have not been as entertained by a superhero movie since the original spiderman.

Yes the story is basically an origin story, however it is done very well, there is a change in Starks character when he becomes Iron Man. The plot is well put together and coherent, however i won't give details here as i don't want to spoil it for people. Downey is absolutely fantastic delivering some of the dryest humour i have seen on screen for a while. Granted not everyone's cup of tea but i enjoyed it. The characters are not flat 2d representations but do have occasional depth and despite having bits cut out of the film for length, it clocked around 2hrs by my watch, there is enough to build upon to make this a good trilogy. Some of the fight scenes are a little skittish and the shots could have been picked better on occasion. Oh and finally the special effects are very well done, ILM did a fantastic job following on from the same sort of photorealism seen in Transformers and despite relying on it in places it doesn't detract from the immersion.

I have never been a collector of the comics, but i know enough of the story to say that it is relatively true to them with the suits, villains, origins etc, and the fans will be glad to know that there are hints of dialogue from some characters that hint at what could be to come...

Incredible Hulk and The Dark Knight have in my opinion a tough act to follow if they want to be the top superhero film of '08.

Definite Blu buy for me

Oh and when you do go see it stay till the end of the credits for a little bonus scene

Any questions you want answered feel free to PM me and ill reply best i can as soon as i can.
