Pinch me, I think I've died and gone to Heaven

It's just so cool now that when I see a movie in the theater from now on it will be released on Blu. Last year I found myself disappointed if I enjoyed a Universal movie knowing that it was red. But those days are history.

I am also happy that the DTS-HD MA bomb is fixed in my rig.

Default Universal To Use DTS-HD Master Lossless Audio On Blu-ray

"The first wave of Universal Blu-ray Disc titles on July 22 are all from the Mummy franchise and were all previously released on HD DVD: The Mummy, The Mummy Returns and The Scorpion King. All of these titles were published with Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 audio tracks, but not Dolby TrueHD tracks.

Per Universal, all three Mummy films will include DTS-HD Master Lossless Audio. That's right, folks. Instead of lazily porting over what was already completed for HD DVD, Universal has heard your cries for lossless audio and is taking action.

Universal went on to tell us that the game plan moving forward is for DTS-HD Master Lossless to become the Blu-ray standard at the studio. Obviously there will be exceptions, but it looks like the majority of titles, and probably all new theatrical titles, will include DTS-HD."

I really hope they plan on using more DTS MA or PCM. I just find Dolby TrueHD to be the least impressive audio compare to the other lossless codec. Maybe cause my PS3 doesn't support full Dolby TrueHD?

I think that TrueHD is the least impressive but what do you mean by full Dolby TrueHD?

DTS HD MA = Lossless
TrueHD = Lossless

Both are mathematically lossless to the LPCM master.

Two different means to produce the same results.

So far without any releases, coupled with the latest announcements from WB(i.e. Justice League tv shows and others only having DD), Paramount with TrueHD and Uni with DTS HD are making WB look like chumps. Awesome.

Yeah, they should sound the same unless dialnorm is used with TrueHD. Maybe people are hearing volume-level differences and thinking one is superior over the other. I'm not sure what it is but I've seen many post that they prefer one or the other so something must be up (i.e. don't think it's just their imagination).

Why do you think that? The PS3 has been able to decode TrueHD for a while now.

Anyway, it's good to see Universal going with lossless sound but I wonder why they decided on DTS-HD MA. I thought it was harder to do and also more expensive to use? Interesting.

I believe PS3 decodes some of the Dolby TrueHD but you won't get the full lossless audio, whereas high-end Blu-ray players will decode Dolby TrueHD without any loss signal. Not sure if you understood that? this is just what I've heard...

No, it's equal to the LPCM master, nothing more nothing less.

This is excellent. With the PS3's latest BIOS update, I'm glad to hear that DTS Master Audio will be used more and more.
