Default Let's Make Universal Neutral

...not really. But i say lets try our best to make this happen. This is my first post on this site or any site as a matter of fact. I have been reading this site for quite a while. And i really enjoy all the information that is passed around here. This site is truly a site full of nice people unlike the HDDVD sites. Even though people here do have their moments of "zelotness."

A little about me: I don't own a Blu-Ray player nor do I own an HDTV....yet. I am waiting for the HDMI 1.3 capable HDTVs to come out and I am about to purchase a PS3 very soon. I know of allot of other people who are waiting after they have saved up too. I do own four Blu-Ray films as of last week (Casino Royale, Departed, Happy Feet, and the Descent) and I am going to keep buying more. After seeing many stores that carry Blu-Ray and HDDVD I really think there is going to be a giant boom of Blu-Ray purchases soon. I have been going to best buy very often and pretty much selling all customers on Blu-Ray instead of HDDVD. And I don't even work there!!

I think this whole "war" is pointless and I want it to end NOW!!! Multiple formats aren't bad for games because games are build around hardware and actually have to be written around that hardware. And some games have different needs. I'm not saying that more space isn't better. Just some games don't need it. Movies are different. They are made to watch on a format. They aren't built around a machine's specs. They are using a pre-rendered format to be read by a machine. Whereas games are using real time interactivities and most of the time don't need all the space. Just look at resistance, it uses i believe about 16 gigs whereas Kingdom of Heaven is on a 50 gig disc. I understand that the software on both Blu-Ray and HDDVD are very similar of not the same in most cases. I mean the actual codec of a film(AVC, VC-1, MPEG 2) not the interactive features(
HDi, Java). When I describe the differences of the two formats to someone who knows nothing of the inner workings of the two formats, I use the analogy that HDDVD is a "used car with a new engine" and Blu-Ray is a whole "new car" altogether. Sorry that may sound all over the place. And if some of my facts are wrong please tell me.

I have one question. Does anyone know if/when the 100/200gig discs come out will be supported by the PS3 or any player? I have heard all the players need is a firmware update since all players were required to be able to play all the layers Blu-ray can handle. Since Blu-ray was designed to just add more layers as space is needed.

Now to what i REALLY wanted to say. It is a bit childish but I agree with the few who want to best those damn HDDVD trolls at their own game of buying on one day. I say lets do it on two days. I have been reading about the 21st and the one year anniversary of Blu-Ray. Why not? Its not like we aren't going to buy these movies on this wonderful format. Everyone buy at lest one film on those two days. It's really not that hard to do. Just go online and buy at amazon or go to the store and buy. That's it!!!! Lets show these HDDVD zelots which format is the better format with more space and higher bit rate!!!!!

I hope you guys who respond enjoy my first post. Unless my title pissed off too many people and i get booted.

It has been mentioned in other threads before, but I think directly contacting Universal is an excellent thing for everyone to do. I sent them a message via their website, saying that I'm no longer buying DVDs, all I'm buying is Blu-ray discs, so if they want me to buy their products, they'll need to release on Blu-ray. It's important to not only refuse to buy the products of companies whose behaviour you're trying to change, but to also let them know that you aren't buying their products and why.

I don't think we need '1 day' to go and buy movies...

we pretty much do it every tuesday...at least 3 out of every 4 weeks anyways..

I already made a few purchases this week...because I planned to...we don't have to take another step ahead...

let the HD-DVD groupies get together and try to make a big bang in one week...when we get the whole month..

BD25 and BD50 are the only discs ratified for movies.

BD100 and BD200 will likely be for PC usage only.
