There are two outstanding song sequences in Mamma Mia though: Dancing Queen, which REALLY opened up the movie and teased us about what could have been, and The Winner Takes It All, where Streep did a terrific job at singing the song through its depth.

Agree +10000%. Hairspray was alot of fun to watch. After reviewing Momma Mia, it was difficult to listen to ABBA, because I kept hearing the bad singing of Streep and Brosnan instead of the great singing of ABBA themselves. Took me a while to get that travasty out of me head.

I never thought I would like Hairspray (bought it for the wife) but I really do enjoy it. I have never seen Mamma Mia and have no plans to. Hairspray is a good one though IMO.

OMG..that would be hard for me. I LOVE musicals and Hairspray and Mamma Mia were both GREAT. I seen Hairspray in theaters like 16 times. It was that great of a movie. I was really happy about Mamma Mia coming to theaters. but i sadly didnt get to see it in theaters =(. But when it came out i was sooo happy. I've watched Mamma Mia like a total of 10 times since i got it. I know every song and every line in the movie just like Hairspray. What can i say i LOVE musicals =D

As a HUGE fan of musicals, and after seeing both, I will say that HAIRSPRAY was MUCH more enjoyable and has plenty of replay value.

Seeing John Travolta dance in a fat suit and dress was hysterical. Songs were catchier. Colors popped more. The movie was PURE eye-candy with a wonderful soundtrack to tap your toes to.

Mama Mia was fun for once or twice, but having to sit through Pierce Bronson singing WAS a bit tragic.

Hairspray by default only because Mamma Mia was so terrible. ABBA's music is great when ABBA sings it but none of the cast members could sing a lick and those modern jukebox musicals where they shoehorn pop tunes into some half baked plot are just terrible, a real insult to classic musicals.

Mama Mia!! I don't know when, where, why or how,but somewhere over the course of time I pretty much learned to know every lyric to an Abba song when it comes on.

MAMA MIA really is just unbelivably awful. How anyone can tolerate the grating noises of those non-singing hams is a mystery. I bought it only because my mother wanted to see it. It was absolutely painful to watch and worse to hear.

HAIRSPRAY is the much better movie.
