When I play games that are PCM, like burnout or GTAIV, my receiver shows 5.1 or 7.1, but there is no sound from my sub. Movies play in 5.1 PCM with no problem. If I uncheck the PCM options under "Sound Settings" on the XMB, I get the lossy DD or DTS track and that plays 5.1 just fine. I dont like having to uncheck the PCM options everytime I play a game! I originally thought this was a game issue for Burnout, but it is now happening with GTA as well. So, it seems like a PS3 issue. Anyone care to chime in? My equipment is in my sig. IF no one can help, should I contact Sony? Thanks guys and gals.

Are you using the receiver in 'direct mode'? If you try using a DSP or THX mode instead does it help? That's a strange one, I haven't heard of it before... |

I use it in pure direct mode, I just dont know if it is the receiver or PS3. I really think it's the PS3 or just the way certain games work, but I hope I'm wrong. This is only on games that have a PCM track, so if the game only has Dolby Digital, it will play fine. Again, my Pioneer recognizes and displays PCM 5.1, but my sub plays nothing and just does auto shutoff eventually.

I was going to mention that too. Pure direct mode bypasses all EQ that was calibrated in the MCACC setup. Try direct, and turn the sub 'on' (not auto) first. Not sure of the volumes you're listening, but we can eliminate one thing at a time...

Take it off Pure Direct, and your sub will work fine. |

I know this post is over a month old, but I just wanted to provide one more bit of information. In addition to setting PCM mode to "direct" (not pure direct), you should also check your speaker "size" settings. MCACC is notorious for setting your front speakers to "LARGE" which send an incorrect of the LFE signal to the front speakers, rather than being handled by the sub.
Go into your speaker setup and make sure the front/center speakers are set to "SMALL". This will force the receiver to send a larger bass range to the sub, as is appropriate. |

You also need to set your subwoofer to not only "on" but also "PLUS".
I had this problem when I set up my system with the Pioneer 92. I was playing music on my PS3 and no sound was coming out of the sub. Changing the setting to "PLUS" resolved it. |
