I can't believe noone has called you out on this: what you write above is complete bullshit. Receivers, like most (if not all) other components have their own sonic qualities. If you can't hear a difference between different brands of receiver you either have poor hearing or a poor sounding system (or both).

I have an ancient receiver here I keep just for sentimental reasons. I don't use it though, 'cause it sounds like crap: there's no treble extension and the bass is flabby.

Some people on Ebay are selling the Onkyo subwoofers and the 805. There even is an 805 that needs repaired but is being sold for very cheap. Should I take a chance?

if you have money to burn go ahead. otherwise, why would you "take a chance"?

Let's just put it this way. If I could end up getting the reciever fixed or replaced cheaply, or free, I could save over $200.

then again, how much is a mfg warranty worth to you?

would imagine if your getting it fixed free then it would be under warranty. if thats the case the seller would probably get it fixed himself and sell it more. to each his own but you asked if you should. a new unit with mfg warranty is worth more than a cheap used unit.

Ok, I got another sub. What kind of splitter should I use and where should I put it? (And what wire to get) I'm still looking at the 805 FYI!

Does this question need to be moved to a different thread?
