I don't recommend it. It's considered an unnecessary purchase, so financing it with the interest rates nowadays is a waste of money. Save up like a smart, fiscally responsible person would do, and by the time you have the money, chances are the TV you're looking at will cost much less anyway. A lot of people have problems with delayed gratification, but you'll find you'll appreciate it MUCH more if you actually save up the cash for it. Just my opinion.

I opened up a best buy card account for my Samsung TV. No Interest for 18 months. I couldn't pass up borrowing free money for a year and a half!

I agree with Doc here 100%. I HATE spending money I don't have. Being in college and all, about to graduate, I'm proud of the fact I am $0 in debt right now. I'm a staunch believer in saving. It feels all the more better when you buy it at the end after all your hard work pays off.

I love that feeling too. I see my roommate taking out student loans like it's nothing and it's just ridiculous what they spend it on. I will be done with my undergraduate degree in 2 weeks with $0.00 debt . Dental school though...well luckily I can pull from my inheritance early for that lol.

Or going through vet school, racking up $100k in school loans. That pretty much nixed my extravagant purchases for a while...

you'd be a donkey if you take a loan out for a home theater system.

It may take longer but I have paid cash for every piece of my home theater. It's great knowing you don't owe money for something. It also winds up costing you a lot more in the long run. The no interest/no payment thing is a great thing only if you pay it off before the due date.
My wife and I did buy our home theater furniture from Rooms to go about 4 months ago. They had no interest/no payment until Jan 2010 if you can believe that. We will have that paid off in a few months, way ahead of when it is due. I think a lot of people don't bother making payments and then they get stuck with interest in the end.

Man...I like where your head is at as fars as the addiction goes, but it's definitely NOT worth a loan.

Money that costs you money is never a good thing.

I financed my tv and Blu Ray player but it was also on an 18 month interest free deal. Paid it off 11 months early to get away from it. Most times I save the cash to buy stuff. I have very few bills and enjoy it.

We're house shopping (even got approved on the loan for the one we really fell in love with) and the new house would probably greatly change what I "thought" I'd be able to do in regards to building a home-theater. It's all about prioritizing, and a loan JUST for a home-theater is stupid......

Putting $30K into a home theater will raise your property value by $5k probably.....

If you re-finish a kitchen for $75K for instance, it's expected to raise the value (assuming you stay neutral and don't do anything extreme) by about $64K because the general rule of thumb, is 85% of money put into improvements is realized in the selling value of the house.

bottom line, maybe you need some new kitchen counters

There is no interest free money. Someone has to pay the interest. Usually, the store pays the interest from their margins. Based on my experience, a better deal can be negotiated for cash when they say "interest free" (in most cases).

Where you gonna go to dental school Homura? I'm just finishing up dental school at Creighton University. Graduation is this week. It's a nice feeling to be completely done with school.

Staying here at USC. I can't wait to start in August. I have been going down to Mexico with my brother (finishing up his 3rd year at USC School of Dent.) every other month for the past few years to assist him and other dentists; it has shown me that Dentistry is by far the best profession. I look forward to when we both have our license and can pack up our portable units and fly into South America for a week and work up in the mountains on indigenous people.

How did you like school at Creighton?

(Sorry for thread hijacking)
