In this case, not really that decent of a Japanese Horror movie. I have not seen the US version yet but saw the Japanese version many years ago and I didn't think it was that great.

So many movies now that have now come out that are just remakes of different Asian movies, some are pretty good (Departed) and some not so good (The Eye). Hopefully a lot of people go back and watch the original Asian versions.

US versions or Japanese versions? I liked Ringu 1 and 2 (Japanese) and Ju-on. I thought the US version of Ring 1 was not bad but not quite as good as the original. But the rest are much better in the Japanese versions.

Default Thumb DOWN

I just rented this Blu-ray and what a frackin' turkey of a movie! It made sense, but just barely. I fast-forwarded through most of the middle so it only took me say 40min to get through the whole 1h 23m. Man, what a crapper.

I rented this last week, and I thought it was barely OK. I don't think it's completely a 0% fresh tomato (as listed on RottenTomatoes); I'd say it's even with Shutter or maybe just a little better as Shutter left me wanting. At least OMC has some creep factor.

This movie made any of the bad Sci Fi Channel movies look like masterpieces. It basically took the Asian version, and beat it to death. I get the feeling that anyone who does like it, should wait a couple of months and get it as a $5 clearance item.

As Comic Book Guy would say, "WORST MOVIE EVER!"

I rented this and thought it wasn't worth the $1.88.

Haven't seen it, but did see original version. as OP said wasn't sure if it is going to end with this movie. The original has a sequel. So if they think it did well in the states i'm sure they'll redo part 2 as well. This also goes for the EYE coming out. there's a part 2 and I doubt the american version will be better than the originals.

unfortunatly it was another remake of Japanese flick and i guess it was beetween alright and bad. LOL i'm not even sure. I dont think it deserves your 90 some minutes of your life. Just skip it and watch Casino Royale or The Descent again.

I liked it. I'll repost my quicky review from the main page...
Quote:
Don't Miss This Call.

I'm likewise surprised by some of the negative reviews the film has gotten. I have to wonder if some of them are due to just the negative opinion of Asian Horror remakes. Because I certainly was entertained by the movie and didn't feel like it was a waste of money at all to pick up on Blu-Ray. But then I'm a big fan of those remakes (except maybe Dark Water), though I enjoy the originals as well.

The plot does seem seem to borrow heavily from films like The Ring, The Grudge, Final Destination, etc... but then what really is original now adays? Regardless of some similar themes, I think was entertaining. It's got a general atmosphere of creepiness throught, some good scares, and a couple of interesting twists along the way. It's simply a fun movie worthy of a spin in my opinion.

I'll echo some of the above comments. I was likewise disappointed in the complete lack of any special features. Even an Audio Commentary and Trailer would have been great. Hell, maybe some fluffy production documentaries. There has to be stuff like that out there for this movie. Even some of the worst movies often get decent extras. Sadly not here. And I doubt we'll see a sequel.

This is directed by Takashi Miike, isn't it? Sounds cool, must give it a watch.

Predictable, boring, and ultimately a train wreck of a movie, but then again, Dragon Wars makes it look like movie of the year, lol.

Horror Flicks like this one i will purchase at a price at two times the cost of the rental. For me there has never been much replay value. This is why I have never purchased Saw I-IV. I saw the first two on DVD and never bothered to purchase on BD because I can't justify spending more than $9.99 to $13.99 on a movie I will probably only watch once. I figure as much as I want to see the movie, renting it costs $6-7 and its worth another $5-6 to own to add to the collection. In the case of one missed call, it has no replay value to me because of the genre it fits into as far as movies go.
