Question Should i go to 24bit?

At the moment i have the capabilities to listen to blu-ray's at 48Khz/16-bit. I've noticed that most of the disks i have are at 48Khz/24-bit.

Is it worth going that extra step up? My ears are not exactly the best in the world (courtesy of BOC in 1985 ) so I'd like people's opinions on the move up (or if in fact I'm going to notice any difference at all!)

Cheers

What is the limiting factor to 16 bits? The Denon or your HTPC?

I am planning on getting a M-Audio Revolution 7.1 (192kHz/24bit DAC on all 8 channels) for my htpc. Not actually sure what specs my current audio output has though (still using my analog on-board mainboard audio outs), need to check that first.

If your current audio DAC has a bit-depth of 16bit, i'd recommend the upgrade. Imo bit-depth for audio is like resolution for video. Also you can probably avoid downsampling and dithering.

What card did you have in mind btw?

The Audigy 2 ZS in my HTPC. I use analog out for HD codecs.

I was looking at either the M-Audio or the Asus Xonar Blaumann as they both have drivers to adjust for delay and distance.

But if i ain't gonna tell the difference i have other things that the money can (and probably should) go on
