Default Very disappointed with PQ on two Fox titles...

I was VERY upset with the PQ of 28 weeks later and The Day After tomorrow. I decided to rent them, and wow...the PQ really wasnt anything like this site makes it out to be. They both got great PQ reviews. about 70% of 28weeks later was grainy. I felt like the DVD looked better. The day after tomorrow was OK. Nothing special.

Idk so far in my opinon THE DESCENT holds top spot for best bluray for me.

My only question to you would be, what type of display are you using? I only ask because both of these titles have great video transfers and top notch PQ on my setup. And let's not even mention the audio.

the set up I have is what my signature says.
I dont know why people knock smaller HDTV's you save money and bluray still kicks major ass on it.

Spider-man 3, the descent and House of 1000 corpses blew me away. They looked BEAUTIFUL.

It's not about knocking anything. In the audio/video world you always get what you pay for. 95+% of the time better brand names will have better PQ/AQ then cheap or economy brands. It's really that simple. Not to mention that it is essential that you have you TV properly calibrated and that you're using the optimal connections between player and display.

What is your connection from player to TV?

just because a movie is grainy doesn't mean the PQ is bad, grain is a natural part of film and sometimes heavy use of grain is intended by the director.

I really dont know too much about connection/wires and all the specific things about Blu-ray yet.
I have the basic cables that came with the bluray player. I believe they are a step down from HDMI (which apparently gives the best picture)
I am happy with bluray, just disapointed by these 2 movies.

im sorry if this sounds frank, but first off your HDTV is only 720p, your mising half the resolution of the movie, so after seeing only half the image, i don't see how you can comment on the movies, second, you aren't even using hdmi, and third the contrast ratio is so low on an element HDTV that anything with a lot of dark scenes is going to look like crap.

sorry if i sound like a dick, but thats just the way it is.

I'm happy with both.

Also, I thought The Day After Tomorrow looked great at the time (one of the best I had seen) but I might rank it a tad lower now. I've seen some since then that I think look better so it changes how I feel about it slightly PQ-wise.

IMO, that's one thing you have to bear in mind when reading reviews, the date it was reviewed. Read some of the reviews on The Punisher and other early releases where they're praised as being the best the reviewer has seen and they usually make comments like "this is what hi-def is all about" but now many of those are considered average at best.

I hope you're being sarcastic without the smilies like I sometimes do.

Not true at all!!!! When I watched The Descent and Identity, most of the film is in a dark environment, Yet the darker images looked fantastic. I was blown away at how clear images can be in a dark atmosphere.
