Default Why does FOX charge so much for their titles?

OK This is a serious question to everybody? Why does 20th Century Fox charge so much for their Blu-ray releases (~$27.95)? Is it because they believe they have better titles? Trying to make higher profits? Is it the price the consumers have to pay for Fox to stay exclusive? I really dont get! Most other studios have their movies at 23.94 or lower and can be bought for under $20 from most retailers online, but not Fox's titles. This has been bugging me for a while and I had to post something about.

Now I feel much better having gotten that out of my chest...

Cool

I for one am happy to see FOX back and if I have to pay $3-$4 more for their titles, as long as they're top quality, I'll pay it. $27.95 really isn't that much of a stretch for price. Fox titles here in Canada are around the $33-$35 range, but ordering from U.S. ends up being a nice little saving.

could it possibly have something to due with fees they pay for DTS MA? or do they not have to pay a fee to use DTS....the reason I ask is that I noticed Lionsgate BD's with DTS HD MA are also a bit more......?

If it weren't for Lionsgate, Fox would be the studio in which I have spent the least amount on. Their pricing is the reason. I will however buy must have titles at their premium price.

i think it has something to do with what their discs/contents has to offer. i am sure/maybe that it is somewhat influenced by BD+ and the DTS HD MA. I disagree with the fact i have to pay 34.99 for a fox film. its too much. I don't know the 100% they charge that much. but i wil be sending them a letter regarding the pricing issue and see, what they would say to me.

I am sure that in UK the minimum wages cover the expenses or the costs over there. so here in the US the same way, but when comparing fox BDs to sony, there is almost 7 bucks differnce to a 10 bucks, compared to other BDs. so pricing is a big issue.

I love some Fox titles, but the pricing has been stopping me from buying them alot too. It has to be a freakin' awesome movie for me to wanna pay that much extra. I probably will when James Cameron's Aliens comes out....wow i love that movie....on that day my checkbook will be sayin' "Game over, man! GAME OVER!" :P

Hey... I'd love all Blu-Ray titles to be as affordable as standard DVDs... and in time they WILL be.

Does anyone remember paying $49.99, $69.99 for one movie on LaserDisc? Geeze... now that's a price that pinched.

Yes I do and $100 or more for a single movie special edition. Toy Story, Nightmare Before Christmas, Aliens, Dawn of the Dead! Now you get all that same content for way less. I would not pay that much now, the extras are just not worth it considering I almost never look at them.

They did this on DVD too, for at least 3 years, they were 5$ more than other for Catalog release.

Everybody is charging 27,99 for new release, but they are the only one that use the same pricing for catalog, seemed to work for them on DVD back then, they use the same strategy here..

I think Fox should come down with their prices if they want to sell more units!

But that was back when the studios had "rental pricing" in effect. Thank god it never took off again.

here is an answer...because they can. They know that us in the blu community love their movies. They are coming out with some excellent titles. Not just Die Hard, but 28 Days Later, From Hell is something I am looking forward to (anything Alan Moore is great by me).

Fox knows will drop the extra cash on them.

I was asking myself the same question the other day (since Fox titles I want are soon to be released) and I realized all my Fox Blu Rays have top flight Picture Quality and Audio Quality. If it stays like that I think they may be worth the extra bucks.

Everything in the UK is twice the price it is in the US. Fox's prices will come into line if there is volume and greater competition, until then Murdoch likes having a few bills (notes) in his pocket.

As mentioned above, Fox has done it all the time. Laserdiscs were always a bit more expensive, DVDs were as well. I wasn't surprised to see them go the same route. I'd give them the time of day for new releases but for catalog, it's painful to think about. I'm wanting to get the Fantastic Four movie but I was really hoping for some kind of bundle deal with the first one. I'm really surprised they didn't go that route and offer that up for a few bucks less.
