Default hdmi1.3 receiver question

im am thinking about purchasing the onkyo tx-sr805 hdmi 1.3 receiver when it comes out next week. my question is do i need a blu ray player that decodes dolby digital plus, true dolby hd, dts hd, etc. to take advantage of te high definition audio of the receiver. or will my samsung bdp-1000 be fine? basically what i am asking is will the receiver doing the decoding be suffieceint or do you need both devices to do the decoding?

In order to take advantage of the advanced codecs, TrueHD, DTS-MA, you will need a BD player that has HDMI 1.3. This will allow you to bitstream the data to the receiver to do the decoding. Unfortunately, the BDP-1000 will only bitstream PCM tracks.

This is true. But if he has a PS3, that will work, since the PS3 has HDMI 1.3 output.

Yes, except that the PS3 currently cannot bitstream advanced codecs through HDMI. It is rumored that this feature maybe enabled in a future firmware update. Plus, he says in his post that he has a BD-P1000.

I think the Panasonic one is the only one at this point. But it only decodes DTS-HD High Res, not the full DTS-HD Master Audio. But it does do Dolby TrueHD.
