Default Infinite blackness from LG

Any news on this?

(freely translated from Swedish newspaper):

"...at CES 2008 Pioneer showed off a prototype plasma where the plasma cells do not 'leak light' in their inactive state - hence 'infinite blackness'...

... LG has picked up on this and is now introducing a proprietary technology achieving the same (infinite blackness) with no light leakage...

...LG says "this is true, our PG7000 that is scheduled for the market at the end of July has 'infinite blackness' with no leakage of light and therefore a resulting light reading of 0 candela from inactive plasma cells (to be compared with the 0.03 candela that our PG6000 will emitt)...""

Pioneers G9 screens are supposedly very good, but still not at 'infinite blackness' according to the same article.

Wouldn't a new Pioneer be a Panasonic?

not yet, this new series is going to be the last all Pioneer model.

5x better black levels than last years Kuro.

I guess my drift is that if LG can achieve this, so should Panasonic, putting them closer to Pioneer's screens (besides the fact that Panasonic will manufacture the Pioneer screens in the future) hopefully at an affordable price. Would love a Pioneer but need to feed the kids too.

The new Pioneers are cheaper than last years models too.
The 50" retails for $4000, and the 60" will retail for $5500.

Man, I wish I had the cash to buy a 60" 2008 Pioneer plasma. Oh well, some day...

Anyone care to guess when Panasonic might deliver pure black plasmas? Pioneer will have to wait until I win the lottery. Alternatively, I could try to trade one of the kids for a Kuro... and let the two that are left watch it.
