Default Infinite baffle subwoofer

I'm trying to find some info on this kind of sub design. It seems almost entirely DIY. Has this been discussed on the forum before?

Anyone build one of these monsters? - I've seen the Bat Barn, but that's about it.

Is it a sub flooring enclosure for a subwoofer? (Bat Barn is awesome!)

Maybe you can enlighten us.

I sense it will become one of my obsessive research subjects soon. It seems to be a sub built into the layout of the house. The usual sub enclosure is actually the basement, attic, or another room.

I've got a laundry room adjacent to my living room with a door to the garage...

Big D- messed with these things before?

I wonder... could I just dismantle a retail sub and build it into the wall!! The proper design seems to have a lot of science involved, so I will need to give this some time.

I hope CrazyBlu doesn't see this

Placement is hyper critical and so is the sweet spot. To be honest, you might not like this route at all for home theater duty.

I was just thinking the exact same thing. If you have a dedicated home theater room, it might be different, but if it's regular living space, such as a family or living room, it would be best to make sure that your chosen location is both safe and effective.

How awful would it be to cut holes into walls or flooring, install the subwoofer and run the wiring, only to find that your listening position is in a low-frequency null zone.

I know of people who love it for music as the bass can be quite natural in a free air setup. I just don't think from my experience the average home theater enthusiast will like what they hear.

So if sounds bad I could have a big whole in the wall and some extra sub parts lying around... not too bad I suppose.

Crazy,

I'm feeling crazy

There are plenty of crazy individuals on this planet. Look at these examples:

This crazy Italian has built one of the world's largest horn subwoofers.

Here is a Slide Show of the construction.

Danley Sound Labs has built the world's most powerful subwoofer, The Matterhorn, for the U.S. military.

It is housed in a 20' x 8' x 8' shipping container. It has 40 drivers, 40,000 watts of self-powered and built-in generator to boot.

These are the amplifiers:

Watch the video on YouTube.

Actually SPL is a pretty good weapon as it is possible to destroy crap with it. Plus it can be used for torture or to annoy the hell out of who ever you want, like the enemy. All that fun stuff !!!

You can scare the enemy much more effectively with low frequency sound. Remember The Hulk..

At the moment the concept makes perfect sense to me. The driver of a sub vibrates back and forth, moving air. If the rooms are separated, the volumes of air don't interact to cancel out.

I wonder if (2) drivers facing each other and ported open to my ht room (14'x15'x9')would work. 10,12, 15" who knows.

PLEASE forgive if I'm sounding like an moron with my current level of knowledge about this concept.

If you want the best, put two of these Rotary Subwoofers in the attic and you will have less problems.

This rotary subwoofer from Eminent Technology goes down to 1Hz. The total cost with installation is close to $27,000 per subwoofer.
