Default Total Harmonic Distortion

While comparing receivers I notice that the Denon 2808 has .05% while the Pioneer Elite 92 has .09%.

How critical is this?

Thanks!!

I'd just listen, the amount of THD in today's amps is usually so low that the differences are not a concern. I can not remember, anything below 1% or .1% is usaually considered not audible.

Both above posters are correct.

You will hear differences in those 2 manufacturers receivers that have absolutely nothing to do with thd.

I believe Pio still uses mosfet devices for their amplification section. That tends to give a pretty solid difference in the "way" those 2 brands sound.

Take a couple CDs you are familiar with and a couple DVDs.

Yeah, I wouldn't be too concerned where numbers that low are involved.

0.05, 0.08, 0.1% - if someone can tell the difference they might also be able to hear frequencies of 150kHz.

Other thing is check the THD for all the modes. Sometimes numbers are played with and you get THD for 2 channel and 5 channels could be over 1.0%. Can't remember what unit it was (I think it might have been an old panasonic), but it list 2 channels at 0.8 and 5 channels at ~ 1.8% which could be an issue.
