Thumbs down you wont believe this!

i had just picked up a cardboard box, from amazon, containing about 6 new bd. i then moved swiftly to the sony store and purchased the, bdp-s500.(i hope it's a good player). i get home with those 2 new goody boxes, and some movie watching groceries,(and vodka). i turn on my 55" hitachi-ultravision... it's on the fritz all of the sudden. it's blinking, flashing, and going completely blank. it will be, no telling how long, before i can get it worked on, or how much it will cost. i actually died a little inside, when this happened. i can't believe it.

Sorry to hear it.

Is the Hitachi under warranty (or extended service)? If not, how old is it?

good luck.

a lesson well learned. buy the extended warranty next time. it's about a year and half old.

I am certain you made good use of the vodka. I am headed out to get some tonic water. Do you need any?

I was going to say, if it's too cost-prohibitive to repair then would you be looking at a new TV purchase?

I might need something stronger than vodka if something like this happened to me.

I'm truly sorry for your loss. One of the worst things I could imagine happening right now to me is my HDTV to stop working.

That super sucks! At least it gives you an excuse to go do something active outside!!! That's why I love when my roommates decide to hi-jack the living room. All of the equipment is mine, so they don't do it often. But, if they do then I instantly snap out of my fixation daze and think "bike ride?"

But, if it's raining, then that just makes things worse. Keep positive and the universe will turn its frown upside down... good lord, did I just type that???

I got lucky that when my set starting going bad, it would still turn on, the problem was it took up to 10 minutes to turn on, just kept going through a loop trying to power up, shutting off, and retrying. That was under the manufacturer's warranty and the set was replaced with a newer model.

Anyways, I did get an extended warranty, although the price to repurchase the hdtv set new has fallen so much that the extended warranty is probably not even worth it.
