Default Hobbit: desolation of smaug

Any word on a digibook of the hobbit: desolation of smaug. I hope they release one to match my digibook of the original hobbit movie.

Dammit! My heart jumped up in my throat when I saw this thread, thinking WM finally posted something.
With the release date, just about, 1 month away I seriously doubt WM is doing another one. Such a bummer.
They probably over ordered on the first one, and are left with a good amount which is why they didn't bother with the 2nd movie. At least that's my guess, seeing as the first one is still available. Oh well.
Might as well move this thread to the Wish List forum.

Im just selling off my first digipack now on ebay and just going to wait another year for the complete theatrical box set and extended box set. No more single release BS since there is no consistency.

That's what's annoying to me as I like the digibook for the first one. Not having one for the second is ridiculous.

Maybe the extended edition will come out in a Digibook. Last time we got a steelbook, so I'm pretty positive we'll get at least one of those for the EE

I think the digibook might be dead in the water. We only got a release of the theatrical version and it was released at the same time as the normal release. That means we should be seeing one now. I see quite a few of them (the first movie digi) around so maybe Warner felt it wasn't worth the expense as it didn't seem to sell.

As for the steel, Now that I think about it that wasn't released at the same time. It was the extended edition in 3d only (for the US market at least) and wasn't released until November so there's steel (heh) hope.

The OCD in me would prefer the same release as the first film: digibook for theatrical, steel for 3D extended since in the US at least that's what we got. It would make my collection seem more in order. Then again at this point I'll take what we can get.

I don't see many digibooks of The Hobbit: AUJ on store shelves (I've been searching in vain for a digibook of Smaug), but you might be right. Still, it's hard for me to believe New Line's marketing team could have misread the last several years of BD sales data and over-produced AUJ digibooks. Maybe, but I think it's more likely that a digibook is in the wings/being withheld/whatever so that they get as many double-dippers as they can whenever they do release it (probably close to the theatrical release of There And Back Again next December).

I'm holding off on buying Smaug because of that suspicion. I'm already waiting to get all three extended editions at the same time. By then, I may not care that much about the theatrical versions anymore anyway.

What's interesting, just to get a small sample size of interest:

This thread now has 9 posts, but over 1,000 page views! That tells me a lot of people are waiting for news of a digibook. Hope it happens.
