Sorry if I missed it but has anyone mentioned Raiders Of The Lost Ark yet?
Strong yellow shift from previous versions we've had on home video. And of course I know home video isn't a good representation of what a film looked like theatrically. I have no issues with the coloring of the Blu Ray however ![]() |

The color timing on James and the Giant Peach is a strange one that doesn't get talked about too often. There's a dark blue tint over the whole image that I don't think Henry Sellick ever approved.
DVD ![]() BD ![]() Promo Still ![]() BD ![]() Oddly, shots in the film that are meant to be dark and in shadow got brightened up. Doing so spoiled the big reveal of the insects and also killed a gag in which the whole gang has fallen on top of each other (though I don't have comparison pics for those). |

The orignal colour timing of The Matrix is also available on Laserdisc.
Anyway I'm surprised no one has mentioned Star Wars yet, although I guess the questionable colour timing of that goes back to the DVD releases, because the VHS tapes and Laserdiscs of both the unaltered editions and even the 1997 special editions didn't look like what we have now on DVD/Blu-Ray. |

Daredevil Director's Cut. The deleted footage is not color timed to the theatrical release footage and the whole thing is just thrown together without any editing precision or re-filtering. You can actually tell where the color changes in the middle of certain scenes of the movie indicating where the new footage comes in. Looks just horrible, although I love the movie, and wish they had just released the theatrical cut as an option on the blu-ray.

Total Recall (Mind Bending Edition) - jeepers the inconsistent colors and weak black levels look like crap, even though the image is much sharper. I'm really disapppointed in how this was messed up and am waiting for a better edition already.

The first U.S. Halloween release, too much red, too much warm color saturation in daytime scenes, desaturated blues.
Halloween 4, too red, far too dark, and some blatant timing changes. Escape from New York has gamma issues where the level isn't high enough (looks fine after I up the gamma level in Catalyst). Friday the 13th VI has desaturated blues and a green push. The Ring has a green push and some desaturated blues. First Ghostbusters release is contrast boosted. The Neverending Story is weird all over, a bit too yellow/orange/red and has too high of a contrast push. There are plenty more, but it'd take me looking through my collection to note them. It's usually the case where the film's tones are too warm, and the skin colors begin to look orangey-red. The first Master of the Universe comparison looks better for the blu-ray version, it looks much more natural and accurate, but I don't remember the green glow on Skeletor in the lava pit. |
