According to some interpretations God did......BUT unfortunately (for them) technology was non-existent at the time. Perhaps if CBS was around to cover footage of dinosaurs walking around amongst men, OR have some footage of Noah herding animals into his titanic sized BOAT....maybe then they could be taken seriously...LOL

I watched Sagan's original a few times, but I think you will enjoy the original if you watch more than one episode. He is the farthest thing from being a dull speaker....quite the opposite is true. If you admired him so much then why did you only watch one episode of Sagan's original? What lectures have you heard from him that make you feel he is an unenthusiastic host?

If Carl Sagan was a boring host then how come COSMOS was such an astronomical success? I'm not trying to be argumentative, just voicing my own opinion, and defending one of the greatest scientists in recent history.

...but I'm pleased to see that you are enjoying the current re-boot.

Cheers
I agree with you. Sagan is one of the most inspirational figures that I have ever come across. I loved his delivery, his voice, and his passion coupled with the music of Vangelis - I don't think there was ever a better match. Here is a video I made a few years ago -- it features various clips from the Cosmos series that I put together.

That's awesome---I REALLY hope more people tune in. Out of the " billions " of possible hosts....Carl Sagan had no equal.

My cousin graduated from Cornell not long after Carl's early demise. One of his main reasons for Choosing Cornell was the fact that Sagan worked on campus, in his own laboratory. A darn GOOD reason indeed if you ask me...

Creationists Demand Airtime On Neil deGrasse Tyson's 'Cosmos'

Quote:
Appearing on "The Janet Mefferd Show" on Thursday, Danny Faulkner of Answers In Genesis voiced his complaints about "Cosmos" and how the 13-episode series has described scientific theories, such as evolution, but has failed to shed light on dissenting creationist viewpoints. He said:

"I was struck in the first episode where [Tyson] talked about science and how, you know, all ideas are discussed, you know, everything is up for discussion –- it's all on the table -- and I thought to myself, 'No, consideration of special creation is definitely not open for discussion, it would seem.'

Tyson recently addressed providing balance when it comes to discussing science. In an interview with CNN, the astronomer criticized the media for giving "equal time" to those who oppose widely accepted scientific theories.

"I think the media has to sort of come out of this ethos that I think was in principle a good one, but doesn't really apply in science. The ethos was, whatever story you give, you have to give the opposing view, and then you can be viewed as balanced," Tyson said, adding, "you don't talk about the spherical earth with NASA and then say let's give equal time to the flat-earthers."

Tyson should tell them to get their creationist research published in some independent science journals first (you know, the way ALL accepted science gets published).

The more they keep trying to preach creationism through political or financial means, the more they demonstrate that their creationist beliefs are not scientific.

Small-Minded Religious Fundamentalists feel threatened by COSMOS.....

GOOD!....they are repulsed by science and should really start to read books containing FACTS. The entire creationist fraternity should feel embarrassed, and give up on trying to brainwash the youth of today with their silly museum in Kentucky. What a waste

I say good, too! They get really upset when scientific facts punch holes in their "logic" which is 0% fact-based. They can't stand when people have opinions that differ from theirs, so they have to whine about how their voice isn't heard which is crap because creationists are definitely not a minority.

Even though I am an Atheist and deeply interested in science, I also have a huge amount of respect for faith (it would be hard being married to a Christian otherwise, but my wife also has a very open mind and accepts Evolution as she does not see it being contrary to her beliefs, just to some parts of the "book that should not be taken literally").

This is why I am baffled every time some people who I assume (which could be my mistake) are smart try to put Creationism and "Intelligent Design" as science.

It is Theology, which is fine. But why try to present something that does not fit in any of the tenets of science as such?
Just like Tyson said relating to Flat Earth, you oppose theories as long as there is a point in doing so and that the comparison/ opposition is on the same ground/ makes sense.

Back on the show itself, I am loving it so far but really annoyed with the amount of commercial breaks.
Is it better on NatGeo than Fox? Anyone knows if a Blu-Ray is coming any time soon?

It's because their intentions aren't honest - They are not trying to educate people about science, they are trying to preach their religious beliefs by bringing them through the back door through politics.

Yes- there are many lengthy commercials on Fox- We should see a Blu-ray release soon hopefully.

I was raised as a Roman Catholic and went to church each week until the end of 8th grade, went to confession, did my best to maintain my faith,....but then, I slowly started to " wake up "...and form some ideas of my own.

Shortly after grammar school, a member of my Church was sent to jail for 12 years.....he was into such hobbies as child porn, and molestation of young boys. Not a surprise

The thought that someone as devout and close to God, like a priest, would even consider harming a child,...is mind-boggling. And then to learn, in more recent times, that a large percentage of priests are in fact evil perverts hiding behind the holy cloth of God, is even more disturbing.

From my experience the priesthood is a safe haven for sexually perverted men who have appetites for young boys. But I'm sure there are plenty of " good honest " priests out there....just not as many as one would think.....or hope for.

Anyways, I have steered WAY off topic so no more posting about this stuff.

Let's look forward to next week's cosmos....and of course,...the Blu-ray release!

Onward!

I dunno. As much as I'm on his side of the argument, and even though he made some very cogent points, I thought he came off sounding like a raving lunatic.

For a time I though I was watching Seth Rogen - I was expecting to see James Franco pop up as Sagan doing one of their parodies.

I'll agree that even though some of it was funny, he was a bit over the top with the ranting.

So, apparently, Comedy Central has offered Creationists a one-hour weekly show to present their views.
