I've seen POMPEII, 300 RISE OF AN EMPIRE, and NOAH so far this year. I'd say of those three that NOAH is the best, but POMPEII is the most fun.

I wanted to check out POMPEII but I'm burned out on "300" wannabes. Movies that are more about the money shots than the story I try to avoid whenever possible. I was always fascinated by the Pompeii story, though, so maybe I'll set aside my disdain for eye-candy-for-the-sake-of-eye-candy films and blind buy this on Blu-ray. I love disaster movies and I heard it's more of a disaster movie anyway so maybe this will push me into it more easily

Saw this in 3D, on the RPX giant screen at Regal. It was a very entertaining movie. Pretty good acting and cinematography. The 3D was good, a lot of it for depth, though some good pop out ones. Excellent visual effects.
To another post, it was NOT a 300 wannabe. |

This isn't day one for me, but I will eventually get the 3D blu-ray just cause I love Kit Harington and Emily Browning and the Pompeii story is a fascinating one. I actually planned on seeing this in theaters, but like bowlingbilly10 my theater only played it for 2 weeks. |

I had no interest in this film the second I saw Paul W.S. Anderson directed it. |

Pompeii is absolutely atrocious. It's akin to a made-for-TV Syfy creature-feature film, but worse. I usually enjoy most films and defend them. This film I refuse to defend and am obliged to warn. I saw it the last day (of the 2nd week) it was in theaters. I then knew why it was gone so fast: because it made very little money and its so very horrible. If you are intelligent, I implore you to see this for free through alternate means before you even consider buying this or spending any money. I am also an Emily Browning fan and a Kiefer Sutherland fan. They could not save this film. Kiefer was the only sort of bright spot because he was a very good villain, but it doesn't matter because nothing gels to anything entertaining. I usually really enjoy and love Paul W.S. Anderson's films. Mortal Kombat, Event Horizon, Resident Evil, and Resident Evil: Retribution (extremely attracting despite the lack of substance). Though, I absolutely hated his Resident Evil: Afterlife. I think I hate Pompeii even more. I find his films really enjoyable or really bad. If I had missed this in theaters, I would have bought this blind when it became real cheap, but now I know that I've already wasted $7.50 on this abomination... no more. Though everyone has different tastes and I am in the extreme minority because I rarely hate films. When I do hate films, they are usually defended by people. I've seen a lot of people defend this and I find it absolutely baffling. But I guess that goes with the world I find myself in where the majority are almost always psychotic and choose their own destruction because they are sheep. You have been warned. And that's all I have to say about that. |
